Grant Pangallo is pretty good and will only get better. #5 from Beechwood was clutch when he hit that three in the corner at the end of the first half when Beechwood played NCC. I think he is a sophomore but I am not sure.

Also, Boone is stacked with sophomores.

I remember a Pohlgeers from Beechwood in the 80's, he was about 6'7 I think. If its his boy, this kid could shoot up.

 

I went to school with him. His name is Kurt Pohlgeers and he is the cousin of the Pohlgeers for Beechwood now. All the men in that family are tall, so maybe that will rub off on him.

Blake Bryan easily the best soph in D-3, In top 5 in 9th region. Can play D, shoot , and distribute the ball....

Know one has heard this name because he has not played hardly at all this year because of injury, which happened during Conditioning, but Demitrius Avery of Conner would be one of the top 5 Sophomores in his class.

Johnson has a smooth stroke from outside and kind of reminds me of Austin Hill as a sophomore. If he hits the weight room as hard as Austin did between his sophomore and junior and then junior and senior year, he could end up being as dominant as Austin was both inside and out.

A little off topic as the kid's in the 10th region albiet still NKY, but since you mentioned him above; Brossart's Jacob Reiger looks to be a good one in the making. Already a leader on his very young team, who can score, rebound and of course play defense--He also appears to be getting taller and longer!! I really have liked what I've seen of Kowolonek as well--Very athletic!!

2. Of the sophomores listed as being tops in the area, all are in that category simply because their respected schools don't have much depth, therefor forcing sophomores to play early. Don't get me wrong, they are all very good, but only Kowolonek would see alot of playing time at Holmes.

 

3. Talent wise, Pittman will match up with any other soph in nky. Good outside shot, long on defense, and the ability to play both inside and out.

 

Don't let the stats fool you. If we're going on talent and upside, Pittman, R. Johnson, and Kowolonek of HHS are the cream of he crop.

While Eastin is obviously having a great year, I wouldn' put him up with the sophs from Boone, Holmes or HHS yet. He hasn't played against the competition those have. The others have proved themselves against high caliber teams.

Disagree with #2. Boone has 4 sophs that have succeeded for years in AAU ball against top national competition. They are smart players, the guards are quick, good ball handlers, and the sophs are very good shooters. They have all played against Rico and several of the boys from Holmes in AAU ball for several years and have not been intimidated or overmatched. I believe that Johnson would start at Boone, but Pittman would not at this point. Boone may not have a lot of seniors, but they are deep in talent in the sophomore class. 5 very good sophs compete for time with a senior (Krohman) and junior (McFarland).

 

What is Pittman's shooting percentage from 2 and 3?

 

While Kowolonek is a good player and has improved since the summer, he is in a situation where he has to score. Other than he and McGraw and Simpson, Highlands has no other options. I would put him in top 10 right now.

 

I will agree with Johnson being top 5. He is very athletic, and he has had the results/stats to prove it.

 

Stats don't lie. Its a matter of how you look at them and which stats you look at. Isn't a big reason they are kept to evaluate and recognize performance? There are some more intangible stats that don't get into the books, but you can still track things like how many points does a player allow his man to score, how many good passes, how many box-outs, etc.

 

IMO, a player isn't top 5 just because someone says they are or have an upside. Upside is subjective. Stats are more objective instead of basing it on perception and individual opinion. How can you accurately rank based on upside or what someone may do in the future. What are they doing right now? Otherwise, it's all speculation.
