Disagree with #2. Boone has 4 sophs that have succeeded for years in AAU ball against top national competition. They are smart players, the guards are quick, good ball handlers, and the sophs are very good shooters. They have all played against Rico and several of the boys from Holmes in AAU ball for several years and have not been intimidated or overmatched. I believe that Johnson would start at Boone, but Pittman would not at this point. Boone may not have a lot of seniors, but they are deep in talent in the sophomore class. 5 very good sophs compete for time with a senior (Krohman) and junior (McFarland).

 

What is Pittman's shooting percentage from 2 and 3?

 

While Kowolonek is a good player and has improved since the summer, he is in a situation where he has to score. Other than he and McGraw and Simpson, Highlands has no other options. I would put him in top 10 right now.

 

I will agree with Johnson being top 5. He is very athletic, and he has had the results/stats to prove it.

 

Stats don't lie. Its a matter of how you look at them and which stats you look at. Isn't a big reason they are kept to evaluate and recognize performance? There are some more intangible stats that don't get into the books, but you can still track things like how many points does a player allow his man to score, how many good passes, how many box-outs, etc.

 

IMO, a player isn't top 5 just because someone says they are or have an upside. Upside is subjective. Stats are more objective instead of basing it on perception and individual opinion. How can you accurately rank based on upside or what someone may do in the future. What are they doing right now? Otherwise, it's all speculation.

 

Good points and I respect your opinion. My objective wasn't to dscredit the talented sophs at Boone. I have known of them for quite some time and know that they are a talented group. Boone's record speaks for itself.

 

I was simply stating at a school like Holmes which is senior dominated, Pittman isn't going to get as much recognition because he isn't that big of a scoring option YET simply because when he's in the game, you have the likes of Henderson, Avery, Nelson, Clark, and R. Johnson out there as well. All of whom can drop 15-20 on you any given night.

 

So if we'e going to go simply on stats then your right, Pittman isn't top 5.

If we're going to look at future top 5, and when you get a chance to see the kid play, you'll agree he is up there with the others. But for right now we'll let it rest. I was simply going on talent alone...rather than stats. One thing's for sure though...If the kid couldn't play he woudldn't be out on the floor, especially with how deep and talented Holmes is this year.

 

Have you had a chance to see Pittman play at all this year though? Just wondering.

I've obviously hit a sore spot with you. I wasn't saying hekis wasn't good. If you re read my post, I said he wasn't up to par with he other mentioned sophs YET. Also something to think about is that with all the injuries Dayton is facing right now, Eastin is the only scoring option which is going to inflate his numbers quite significantly.

Yea absolutely its now his fault with the schedule they play. But like I said before, I just don't feel that he has solitified himself as a top 5 player YET. Top 10, yes.

Can you get his stats? Dayton doesn't report them so its kind of hard to see where he stacks up. I'm not saying the kid isn't good. I'm sure he is. But can you get the stats so I can see what he's done each game? I haven't seen him play so I'd just like to see how he's progressed throughout the year. Thanks. :thumb::thumb:

Eastin did not play with McDaniel. McDaniel and 3 of the Boone boys played for the Shining Stars.

I'm sure all of the boys mentioned in this thread are good players. It's easy to say every kid is top 5, but when you start actually listing the players, I think a few are pretty obvious. The rest can be grouped into a larger grouping, like top 10. Head-to-head results between players in this list could be a good barometer, especially when they end up guarding each other.

Pittman is probably around 6'4 or 6'5. I know he's a little taller than R. Johnson. He had a pretty nice 2 hand dunk against Dixie. But yea the two Johnson brothers start, along with Clark, Avery and Henderson. Pittman comes off the bench as a 6th or 7th man depending on the situation.

A very good match up this week with Kowolonek of Highlands and R. Johnson of Holmes going against eachother and again next week when Holmes meets Boone and the Johnson brothers will go against the other Boone sophs.

Lets face it with all this talent in this class nky basketball will be incredible in 2010 when these kids are seniors. And remember these are just the ones we are hearing about now. I believe there are more out there to come. good luck to all of the kids mentioned. Looking forward to the rest of this year and the next 2.
