Holy Cross (Cov)

 

I'm a big HC fan and have known a great many people that have attended and followed the Indians for years but that gym can't be anyones favorite. Always interesting when the floor starts to get wet from moisture and the teams start sliding all over the place. Hopefully sometime soon the HC program will get a 1st class gym to go along with their 1st class program and people who support them.

I love the Fieldhouse no better gym in the state IMO.

 

I agree with Augusta as well. Always a good atmosphere. I always get a sense of Hoosiers when I walk into that gym. Always very loud and great atmosphere.

 

My statement about Augusta's gym is right on with yours, what used to be our old gym inside the school mirrowed there's back in the 70's and 80's now ours is just a all purpose room, they've took down the ball goals and blocked in the stage now doesn't look anywhere near like a gym now.

Mason County has one of the BEST gyms in the entire state, great place to watch a basketball game.

 

Henry County's gym is very spacious, but I don't think it is a great place to watch a game, the crowd usually isn't very into the game at all.

 

Augusta has one of the nicest (Smallest) gyms around. Small school and a small gym, but it is very nice, very colorful and bright, and a great atmosphere for HS basketball.

 

Mason County's "The Fieldhouse" is the best gym to hold a tournament of any name, it looks and feels like basketball, and the atmosphere is great there.

Our gym at Deming is proably marching up the ranks as on of the worst, with the dreaded "dead spots" that seem to be multiplying on the floor, other than that the new bleachers they've put in the about 3 yrs ago have helped the looks of the place, I remeber when I was is school we would have to help the coaches pull out the old wooden bleachers for the coaches, and they were hard to sit on back then, now all they have to do is push a button.

St. Henry, as a high school gym, was terrible; however, as a grade school gym, I love it. It was always one of my favorite places to play, growing up.

 

Totally Agree. I played my freshman ball at the old gym and it was great for practices and scrimmages. You got to love the old wood backboards and the soft, soft rims. I could shoot at those side baskets all day. But it shouldn't be a HS gym and thank God it no longer is.

 

We still play pick up games once a week at the old school and nothings better than late nights in the old school gym.

The lighting at Henry is terrible. Original lights from whenever the gym was built.

 

What year was it built, I bet you it is not as old as Augusta's.

I know this gym is not in NKY but it is the worst gym I have ever been in, and the people who went to the 8th region all A last would have to agree. EMENINCE is really bad not only is it small it has poles in front of the bleachers so depending on where you sit you can only see one side of the court.

No doubt, my favorite is Augusta , then the Feildhouse for the bigger games.

 

Worst, Silver Grove (no lighting), Herritage, and St. Pats

 

Must agree--I don't enjoy watching a game at St. Pat. Visiting section is at one end of the floor, so it's difficult to watch the action unfolding on the far end of the court.

 

Agree with other posts too...Villa Madonna's gym is cool--what a beautiful campus and location. A person almost feels bad getting loud b/c the view is so serene.:sssh:

Beechwood is a newer gym with seating on one side. Although not the most spacious it typically sufficient for their crowd and a nice place to watch a bball game.

 

Ludlow is a little older, also with seating primarily on one side. Not really big which, with a larger crowd, seems to make it always hot in there.

 

NCC may be the oldest gym in NKY still being used. It is spacious with good seating on both sides but does need some updating. It is drab and needs the same type of updating that Dixie has recently done.

 

I would think that distinction would belong to Holy Cross, but I agree NCC's is pretty bad, especially when it gets cold and turns into a "skating rink". Only gym where I've seen games suspended for "weather"??

 

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Highlands--If you come bring your flashlight. Has to be one of the worst, especially given the quality of their overall sport's facilities--Can you tell they're a football school??

Worst gym is Augusta I mean your right on top of the court and its hard to find a seat. The best floor is Pendleton County the wildcat at half court looks amazing. Best seating area hands down Mason County.

Campbell County has a good gym, but their lighting makes everything look off color.

You are right about it being small, but if you are a fan and up in the top row it isn't that bad! Wildcats floor... GREAT, the atmosphere hasn't been that great in the past couple years. Probably the last time it was good was the year the Belcher boys were there together!!!

I love the old gym at Hazard. It has alot of history and character. Just a really neat place.

Henry County's gym is great. Even though it is old, it's still a great place to watch basketball.

Is Henry County the gym with the scoreboard hanging from the ceiling at the middle of the court? If that's the one I'm thinking of, yes, that is pretty cool.

IMO the best in Northern Ky is Mason County. Watched the 10th Region Championship there last year and the atmoshpere was incredible. Having watched basketball all over the state I would say Marshall County and Barren County are the best out in the state.
