Dayton and Newport are the same

 

Same model but Newports has a little more seating. They are both nice gyms though.

 

Villa does have a nice gym. The only problem I have with it is when there are day games (such as holiday tournaments) the sunlight is blinding making it almost impossible to watch the games.

 

I agree. Villa's new gym is nice and unique. I would say they should have put bleacher on the other side, but the building might have sank . But I do agree that if you have ever seen a game there not at night you can't watch because of the glare. To worsen it, it seems like there is some sort of cloudy paint on the glass, its not just clear. I guess the idea was that this might shade a little sun, but it worsens it. As far as the buidling and the model it is very nice.

I know this gym is not in NKY but it is the worst gym I have ever been in, and the people who went to the 8th region all A last would have to agree. EMENINCE is really bad not only is it small it has poles in front of the bleachers so depending on where you sit you can only see one side of the court.

 

I talked about that last night at the coaches show. Especially that they cleared out the gym and made people pay twice for the All "A" last year.

Oh I also agree with the people that said Heritages gym is the worst. It has always been too small but recently the floor has gotten slippery making it nearly downright dangerous to play on. Put some hardwood down on that thing.

I was recently in Holy Cross' gym and i have to say it is not a good gym to watch a b ball game. It was very cold and i felt like my nose was bleeding where i was sitting. Very steep and dreary.

i like boones new gym and holmes is great for watching the game

Gotta love the new Boone Co gym......very nice, Add the new Cooper High, Ryle and Conner gyms and the Boone Co school system has plenty to brag about ! Holmes is spacious and seats well for viewing but you can't beat Mason Co.

 

The old St. Henry and Holy Cross get the "quaint" nod and unfortunately Highlands has to rank at the bottom; poor seating, space constraints, lighting, ventilation, lobby, concession.........should I go on !

Favorite gyms: Ryle, Conner, Cov Cath, Newport, Highlands (I haven't seen Boone County's new gym yet.)

 

Least Favorite: Beechwood, Heritage

 

 

10th Region

 

Favorite gyms: Mason County, Campbell County high and middle schools, Pendleton County, GRC, Augusta (unique), Bracken County, (I haven't been to Montgomery's new gym yet.)

 

Least Favorite: Silver Grove, Nicholas County, Bishop Brossart, St. Pat

Recently? You must be old because that thing has been slippery for well over 10 years.

I would think that distinction would belong to Holy Cross, but I agree NCC's is pretty bad, especially when it gets cold and turns into a "skating rink". Only gym where I've seen games suspended for "weather"??

 

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Highlands--If you come bring your flashlight. Has to be one of the worst, especially given the quality of their overall sport's facilities--Can you tell they're a football school??

 

I have seen a number of games suspended at different gyms where the doors open directly, or almost , to the outside. Agree that Highlands is hands down the worst place to watch, play, or I'm sure officiate a game. It is dark, and at the one end the floor ridiculously close to the wall. I've always liked Ryle's gym, becuse you can get a number of views of the game there.

I like Ryle, Newport, Holmes, Campbell Co. I have been in those gyms and all are good places to watch a ball game.

I thought this thread was about Northern Kentucky and other Kentucky basketball courts? So why is their anything about Indiana on here?

The gym at Augusta is very unique and you feel like you are going back in time whenever you attend a game there.

 

NO PLACE that I would rather watch a basketball game ! And when you get a Bracken / Augusta matchup it is just electric.

Beechwood by no means has a nice gym. There are plenty of other gyms i would rather watch a basketball game at. But the student section and atmosphere is one of the best around.

I played at HC in the 90's and the atmosphere is great when there are big games. It feels like you can here everyone. Too say it is the best, I don't know, I'm biased. I liked CCH because of the rivalry and fans, Holmes because of rivalry and I knew there fans because I played on the same team as them growing up. Most of my friends right now graduated from there.

 

I liked Brossart and Thomas More, you could really jump on those floors.

Mason Co. is the best, really good atmosphere with really good teams there.

Scott and SK are loud because a lot of HC kids went to grade schools from Taylor Mill and Independence.

 

My opinion as a player is walking into the gym for the J.V. game and it is already pack, knowing it's going to be a sellout, there is no better feeling than that! Going over pregame and the coach has to yell out what the game plans are because the place is rocking, it give players goosebumps. I remember our coach carried around Tums because his stomach had so many butterflys, one player always threw up right before big games and he was our best player! Big games is high school are memories that can never be forgotten.
