I agree completely. I just get a little tired of "My team got wronged, or Johnny should have been on there." Especially, when no one offers points in support of that player or team, or states who they would take off of the team.

One thing he discussed, raises another point. I am assuming that Dale Mueller from Highlands and Jack Haskins from Lone Oak are both responsible for scheduling games for their respective schools. Obviously, both schools are locked into playing the teams in their respective districts, but I am assuming the coaches set the schedule otherwise. My understanding is that Highlands is a 3A school playing up to 5A and Lone Oak is a 4A school. This is where the two coaches philosophies go in opposite directions.

 

Dale Mueller plays up in classification and schedule by scheduling tough competition. His team played one school equal in classification (Highlands should be in 3A), Louisville Central, and they were the 3A state champion. His team runs the table of this tough schedule and wins a state championship. When the all-state teams come out, not one of his players is named to the Lexington Herald-Leader's equivalent to their all-state team. I assume the Courier-Journal will probably name one of Highland's outstanding players to one of their all-state teams and probably several others to their honorable mention. In defense to the Lexington Herald-Leader, they do only name 22 players to their team.

 

Jack Haskins' Lone Oak team is in the 4A classification. They played the mandatory three football games within their own district. All of their other scheduled games where against 2A or 1A lower classification teams. Lone Oak runs the table by playing down in competition. In their final game against Lexington Catholic, a team Highlands defeated by a score of 32-9 in the regular season, they are totally shut down and lose 49-7. Against inferior competition, Lone Oak's quarterback breaks state and national passing records. He is named to the Lexington Herald-Leader's all-state team. He will be named to the Courier Journal's all-state team. There is a strong possibility that he will be named Mr. Football.

 

This is not a knock on Corey Robinson's accomplishments. Corey Robinson did not make up Lone Oak's weak schedule. This is to point out that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Highlands' players were awarded with state championship rings, but unfortunately, none will individually receive much hardware.

 

I just hope that other Kentucky high school coaches do not follow Jack Haskins' blueprint and run up statistics against inferior competition. It is not healthy for Kentucky high school football.

I'll ask a question back at you, don't you find it a bit unusual that a team that goes 15-0 and convincingly wins the state championship in the second largest class didn't have a sole on the Herald Leader's team?

2 - It is a little unusual, but it better exemplifies the TEAM attitude. Our team has won numerous titles and yet we don't have the crazy accolades that other programs' players have had.

Stein really impressed me this season, I had my doubts about him at first, but he was nothing short of amazing this year.

The Herald Leader doesn't sell a lot of papers in NKY and almost none in Ft Thomas.

I may question the selection from Central. A very good team indeed! The standouts to me were the D-line! The QB was good, but not an All Stater in the game I attended.

I am not sure if he was named as a QB or as an athlete. I would say athlete if I were putting money on it. There is already Will Stein and Corey Robinson and I don't think there is much doubt that those two were the best QBs in Kentucky this season.

 

 

Central's D line was beastly good though, you're right. I thought that when I saw them play Manual in the first game of the season and I thought it again against Belfry. They were in Manual's backfield all day. Any team that can hold Deuce Finch the way Central did has a stout D-Line in my opinion.

I'd be hard pressed to believe that Trinity doesn't the most individual player recognitions (all district, region, and state honors, plus any other honors available to individual players) of all of Kentucky. I'm not saying they're not deserving. I just don't think your statement holds water, but I may be wrong.

Maybe they could not decide on any of the Highlands players because they were all equally as good...Which In my opinion is a compliment in its self...:thumb:

First of all congratulations to all who made the list and especially Josh McWherter from Fort Campbell.

 

Second: I find it rather amusing that the majority of posts in this thread are concerning why a Highlands player is not on the list. I’m sure there are MANY players from many different teams other then Highlands that could arguably also be on the list, yet I don’t read anything from any other team. Why is that?

 

Third: They don’t sell a single paper on Fort Campbell…
