Second: I find it rather amusing that the majority of posts in this thread are concerning why a Highlands player is not on the list. I’m sure there are MANY players from many different teams other then Highlands that could arguably also be on the list, yet I don’t read anything from any other team. Why is that?

I would say because Highlands was the most dominating

team in the state...

Why can't we just congratulate the players that made it and leave it at that. Why is it always my Johnny was better than your Johnny. Anyone who would put in writing that someone should be taken off the list to put theirs on the list needs to get a life.

Since no one in this thread has suggested anyone in particular be taken off the list, I don't really get the point of this statement. However, it goes without saying that at least one HHS player deserved to make the list.

You ask why you don't read anything from any other team. Probably because Highlands was the only team in the state that was arguably one of the best two teams in the state this year, went 15-0 playing up two classes, and won the state championship by 21 points, yet failed to have one player mentioned. That's why.

 

I'm not wrapped around the axle over the fact that a Highlands player isn't on the list. Heck, I'm not sure if Mike Fields or whomever made the selections ever even put a helmet or jock strap on ( he is a very nice sports writer though), so I don't put a lot of value in his opinion on the better players in the state. I wouldn't have even commented on this thread but for CentreRocks asking the question of Highlands fans.

 

And if you'll note, several non Highlands fans also agreed with me that it was a little unusual for a team with Highlands accomplishments this year to not have a single player in the top 22. Look, I'm not anti Mike Fields or think Mike has some bias or hatred for Highlands or that his selections are based on where the most papers are sold. Not even close. I just thought it was odd.

What I really find the oddest about the whole thing! Why would you even care what one person thinks? Highlands made some great accomplishments this year. We all no that.

Highlands got Shafted ......... They have to many good players and there should have been some BIRDS on the list. These Boys went out here and Went 15-0 I do believe they were the only UNDEFEATED team in the state.

 

But the CJ Ballot was just as bad. There were alot of Players left off Both list and the BGP Awards will be better than both...

Now there's something you won't see very often!

Collinsworth did a great job shutting down or severly limiting some of the best receivers in the state this year. Guy didn't hurt us, Moore didn't hurt us, the two receivers on Trotwood's team that got D1 scholarships didn't hurt us. Detmer, Dixie's very good receiver, didn't hurt us. I doubt there are very few, if any, defensive backs that played against the level of receivers that Collinsworth and had as much success as he did.

That deserves to be asked again. Seriously?

One thing that needs to be said is that this is not the "All-State" team that the Herald Leader publishes. The Herald Leader publishes the AP All State Team, this is the "Class of the Commonwealth." To be on the Class of the Commonwealth team you must be a senior, it doesn't hurt to have gaudy statistics and I remember that Mike Fields once wrote in a column that the number 1 factor in making this team is college potential. That is not to say that certain players shouldn't be on this list, but it's almost laughable to think that Mike Fields who does have a say on who makes this team, is biased about who makes it based upon circulation figures, anyone who thinks Mike Fields doesn't know or care about high school sports in KY has never spoken to him or been interviewed by him.

Dustin May ties for the leader in votes for the Courier-Journal All-State Coach's All-State team,, yet can't even earn a spot on the Class of the Commonwealth?

 

No offense to Leland Banks of Lou. Central, but he was probably the 8th best player when Belfry and Lou. Central played. I could count three players alone on his team who impressed me more.

 

Shawn Grimm also was a fantastic player, but May was clearly the best player in East of I-75.
