Just watched the replay. It reinforced my opinion that there were some bad calls. However, I cant argue with the overall outcome of the game. The most important thing is that both teams played their hardest.

For instance, on that interception by Beechwood that was taken away?

Do you think DVD's of this game will be available like they were in '04?

We don't have cable, (really!) and would like to have a copy for posterity. The last time I tried to 'tape' a game from ICN-6 at my parents, I got 2 hours of SNOW! The kids weren't available to do the techno stuff, and MY VCR (or DVD, whatever it is!) has been flashing '12' since we bought it! (Do you think it'll come in BETA?):jump:

My take on the game is this: I personally thought LCA's play calling was excellent. It was creative and I believe their true strength. Their coach should be congratulated for the game plan he came up with. I believe he only made one mistake the entire game and that was of course the 4th down call on the goal line. He got greedy and it burned him. I have no doubt it will never happen again. (He says differently in his interviews, but I think privately he's kicking himself)

 

The other great strength I believe LCA showed was their linebackers. They were the real reason LCA was able to hold our running game to what they did.

 

I liked their Quarterbacks play, for a sophmore he did very well. He will be a great asset for their team in the future. Obviously, Hayden is a factor and an excellent player, but in my opinion, not a game breaker. But when you need short yardage he's the man to go to.

 

The big difference in this game was our turnovers. When you make 5 turnovers and give a good team excellent field position, you are asking for trouble (I don't know of many teams who could overcome that adversity and still win). We kept LCA in the game because of those mistakes, gave them much more offensive possession time and motivation. I believe it shows just how great this years team was, to do that and still win.

 

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't a semilar thing happen to LCA in their first game with Hazzard (I heard LCA had 6 turnovers in that first game and they lost)? But what happened in their second game. (Big difference)

 

I am looking forward to meeting you again next year. It should be a good game again. LCA has several good players returning and so does Beechwood.

First let me say to LCA, you have earned the respect of many, you WILL be there next year! I really enjoyed Bluto's time with the Beechwood tail gating crowd. I will always remember the swings of emotion in this game. The emotion of having a senior, watching him leave the field in his uniform for the last time. Very hard thing to see one team have to lose, I wish LCA good luck next year.

Questionable calls all caught on tape. Amelung did intercept the pass on their sideline, feet in good catch. He did not interfere w/the WR but he got pushed away by the WR. The interference call on Teipel in the end zone, not! The WR tripped on the back of Teipel's foot and fell. Amelung's fumble on the kickoff, either way, could have been down and maybe not. These were all crucial calls and 2 of them made by the same ref and everyone can guess which one it was!

That, plus the defensive pass interference on Teipel was terrible. He didnt touch the receiver!

 

LCA eventually scored after each of those calls.

I would be willing to bet that if you would ask Coach Rash he would let you make a copy of their game tape(CD or VCR) Send a blank to school and they can do it there.

Marked off yardage and replayed 1st down when actually should have been 2nd down. If you remember, this was the same series, that LCA went for it on 4th down and short, and got the first down. They had an extra down. This is also the same drive, that went 80 yards for the and ended with the BW int. on the goal line. That drive should have been 3 and out. I hope that the KHSAA makes some changes in deciding who gets these big games.

Well, it is good that we won. Had we lost with those bad calls it would have been hard to take. I too hope the KHSAA makes some changes.

 

Bad calls happen in almost all games to almost all teams at one time or another. However, no excuse for repeated bad calls in such an important game.
