Everyone is familiar with suicides in basketball practices. Might have even run a few or hundreds.

 

A good coaching friend of mine calls them something besides suicides. He had a player once whose dad committed suicide. He thought it totally inappropriate for him to use that term with her on the team. So, he began the habit of calling them something else.

 

I thought it was a great point and something to share with other coaches that are on BGP.

 

Whether you coach elementary, AAU, MS or HS, who knows what has happened in your player's lives and how this term (and how simply could we just call it something else???) could bring hurt back up in their lives.

We always called the "Kentuckey's" and that was 20 years ago.

AGHHHHHHH! Not another PC change. (And I don't mean Pendleton County.)

Puke Drills, is the term I hear.

Lines

It is difficult to say no to changing the name without sounding insensitive.

 

I have heard it called Kamikaze's and Lakers. Not sure where Lakers comes from.

"Shuttle runs" in ohio.....
