Just wondering what the competition is like. My apologies All In. In my opinion, the game of the tournament will be at 7PM on Friday night when the U13 Wolfpack play the Georgetown Thunder. Unless some crazy things happen, that should be the championship game on Sunday at 6:30PM.

Why not say you can have 3 kids with birthdays before Sept. 1 regardless of their grade. It just seems like your rewarding a kid for failing or being held back by allowing them to play down and punishing those whose parents choose not to do it or whose schools will not allow kids stay back just because they want too. Why not do way with the old grade exception rule, and make it Jan 1-Dec 31 of the same year no matter what grade the players are in. So any player born in the same calender year is eligible to play in their age group regardless of grade. " just age". Fall and winter grade exceptions are very strong grade exceptions physically by age, by summer nationals. A player born in Sept, Oct, Nov or Dec, 1993 is a lot more physically developed by age than a grade exception born in May, June ,July or Aug, 1994, by summer national. By summer nationals a player born in Sept, Oct, Nov is ready for their next years birthday. Say a player turns 14 in the fall of 2007, verse a player that turn 14 in late spring or summer of 2008, or " he turns 14 after nationals" their a big physical advantage to the 2007 player with summer nationals. With a Sept 1, age cut off of the previous year and summer nationals they can be a 10 to 6 months age gap . With a Jan 1-Dec 31 same year birthday 6 month would the biggest age difference with summer nationals. Just a opinion for friendly discussion nothing more. Sorry, if I was too redundant.:thumb:
February 27, 200818 yr Why not just make it grade and say if you are eligible to play as a senior you can play. It's going to be that way for the rest of their career's so just play that way. USSSA is basically that way. I also like what you said, calendar year to calendar year, that would work also. I think girls AAU uses those dates.

Sorry, if I was too redundant.:thumb: This is the scenario that will play out for my son who hasnt even turned 13 yet and wont until mid April but has been playing in 13U all winter. Not much of a gap there but 6-9 months at this age can be a major difference in physical development. I think once they get to 15/16 yrs old the growing should all catch up but Middle school years are where you see the kids who mature early dominating the smaller kids.

If you are at this game someone keep track of how many swats McFarland has because I gurantee it will be atleast 5 or 6. However, there may be some matchup problems at the 3 and 4 spots as the Wolfpack have some athletic forwards in McClendon and McGovney. Who will run the show for the Wolfpack out front?

I like the same age as with grade you have for example (9 year olds playing against 11 year olds). All school systems do not allow parents the opportunity to hold their kid back just because they want too. It takes the competitive edge away from the kids that are in the grade they are supposed to be as they are not as physically mature. I recently overheard a coach telling a kid what a great player they were when in fact they would possibly be riding the pine on a good team of their own age players. If it was just about turning 19 before August of their Senior year, why wouldn't you be allowed to stay back in high school if you could beat the age cutoff? Are their any other sports that would allow older kids to play down because of their grade?
February 28, 200818 yr In the end, you can either play or you can't. In elementary school and middle school it does make a difference but by the time you are a junior or senior, you can either play or you can't. Not many people are remembered or recieve scholorships for what they do in middle school. I think AAU and USSSA should either go by age with a January 1st date or go by grade with no exceptions. Alot of cheaters use the exception rule to gain a real advantage. In the nationals its like a circus, everyone questioning everyone's grade exceptions.
