That is one of the things that is wrong with today's athletes. They celebrate when there is nothing to celebrate. You see a DL, jumping up and down after a sack while his team is down 3 TD's. In one of the turkey games, they were down 20-25 points and a WR caught a pass for a 1st down and he did some sort of celebration. Ridiculous.

 

Some celebrations are proper. Most anymore is not.

Marvin said in the press conference something to the effect, that Chad indicated that it had been a long time since he had gotten to do about it. Something else he said came across as a "what are you going to do about it."

So if Justin Smith sacks Big Ben late in the game with the Bengals winning but THEN WHILE SIMPLY HAVING FUN IN A GAME does a Mark Gastineau sack dance and gets penalized 15 yards, first down for the Stillers, and they go on to kick a GW FG, I should just write it off as "having fun" or "stupid rules" or compare it to a speeding ticket?

 

And, please don't embarrass yourself by saying "well if they won the game...."

I love all of your all comments about selfishness from him..All of his teammates always say that he is not the selfish guy fans and media try to make him out to be, that he does care about winning more than anything. His teammates and former coaches even were telling him this week to just go back to his old self out there and have fun. And that is exactly what he did,with a GREAT game today...

I wonder if these were the same teammates telling Chris Henry is was fine to go out and do the stupid things he did. I wonder if it was the same teammates who told Odell is was okay to do the things he did. I wonder just what was the quality of the teammates telling him these things.

I don't see the how these two situations are comparable. In one situation, Chad gets a penalty after putting 6 points up on the board (and they later go on to win with the help of his other two tds). In the other, Smith gets a sack (worth no points) and completely erases what he did with the penalty (resulting in a loss). You can’t erase the td with Chad’s celebration. With that being said, I do think that he could find ways to celebrate without getting a penalty.

So at the time when Chad scored his TD and ultimately decided to get a penalty the Bengals knew they were going to win? That FG at the half that made it 14-6 was nothing at that time?

 

If he did it when they were up 34-6, its small potatoes and is simply a blemish on his character. When its 14-3 and its not halftime yet, it says he's out for #1 or , should I say, "numero uno"....

Let me point out too, that Chad is tremendously talented. That 3rd TD reception was beautiful. The move on the CB for the 2nd was awesome. He is very talented and one of the top 3-5 WR's in the NFL.

At least he got that jerk Carl Pickens off the #1 spot in the Bengals record book.

It's pretty pathetic when the Bengals play a great all around game and all their fans want to do is cry and complain about Chad's celebration penalty.

There was a lot of comments from his teammates this week and former coaches, talking about how Chad is not the selfish person some fans and media make him out to be. And he does care about winning more than anything. They even said that they want the old Chad back who was out there just having fun. So I wouldn't be suprised if they told him if he scores to just go ahead and do a celebration. I mean that sure did seem to get him back on track, because after that it looked like was out there just having fun. Now if he would have went and done another celebration after that 1st penalty, then I could see why you would say that was selfish. But after that penalty he made sure he didn't get another flag thrown on the team. I mean just look at Marvin and how he was smiling about it, I really think it was a very strong possibility that they told him to go ahead and do it...I know we really have not seen anyone on the team call Chad selfish, and say he cares more about himself than winning. Honestly most comments you see about him from teammates is how they all love Chad. I mean when we have seen other players like Randy Moss, and TO go and do their own thing, they had teammates saying things about them. But here all the teammates still just talk about how they love him..Yeah I admit Chad wants the attention on himself, but you all with your selfish comments, and making it seem like he cares more about himself than winning is wrong IMO...
