I think you'd find it different in context if you or yours had to deal with those events and their aftermath in a personal way and not on the news. We're not going to agree, YOU think it's all because we want to rip Saban the man or the program, but it's because of stupid comments and not thinking before you speak, all of which he did. We also apparently can't be like you and react perfect and conform perfectly to any and all situations. Say what you want, analogy, comparison, just something from a talking head, it was wrong, if you think so or not, or the Tide would not have addressed it afterwards. Nobody wanted to pull my quote about the Coach being a human and not perfect. "Cast the first stone" I believe needs to be explained to you people and boy I'd love to share that with y'all, you just want to bash the man because you don't care for him and you see blood and can't let it go. 81, my wife is a huge Card fan with three brothers one who was assistant football coach under Bob Weber, she also has four sons and I believe she knows coaches and football. She saw the press conference and she looked at me and said.."those people on BGPs and ESPN missed the whole symbol". Now I'm known to be a hardcore Bama fan and I get in trouble at work, church, in stores, and on the internet. I don't see things like her,lied, stolen things, and sometimes not very honest....but this girl is not like me, is an exact opposite. And when she said that brother she meant it.

 

To be honest, I'm still trying to decipher it.

I'll explain (and I'm typing at a high rate of speed).

 

She met me and had no reason to want Bama to win in anything, she now pulls for them because it makes me happy, no other reason.

 

She felt like Mike Shula should have stayed, I tried to help her.

 

She saw the Press Conference with no help with me,

 

I asked her thoughts and I used the analogy how I might lie, cheat, steal, make fun of people, etc,

 

She is a saint and doesn't lie.

 

She said what he said make sense and "I wish Coach K would show some fire".

 

She doesn't "hate" coach Saban, but if she had preconcieve thoughts of him and did hate him maybe then she would feel like most of y'all do. "they are over reacting" and "didn't understand what he was aiming at".

I understand what he was saying, but that was not so bright of a choice of words.

As for Saban being arrogant, he may be just that but imo is nowhere close to the pompass jerk that Les Miles is. Both are good football coaches just have a long way to go in the personality dept..

Stupid analogies to make. Yes, my synapses are firing well enough to get that he was making the point that you may have to be knocked down before dusting yourself off and coming back to bring the fight to an opponent. But the fact is that equating football game losses with truly tragic events involving loss of human life is insensitive at best; stupid at worst.

 

Didn't Kellen Winslow (now of the Cleveland Browns) take quite a bit of heat for equating football with war not so long ago?

Obviously everyone on here knows what he meant when he said what he said. When I listened to it I knew. I was not offended in any way by the statements because I immediately knew what he was trying to get across. I do not think those comments necessarily make him insensitive or horrible. My first thought was the commentator who was going on and on about how horrific this is was overreacting. Why are we so sensitive anymore?

 

I can't begin to count all the comments I heard growing up in the 70's from famous sportscasters, coaches, and players where the analogy of comparing a game to a war was used. "Man, it was a war out there today", or a coach or player trying to fire up the team with, "We're going to war today. Let's take no prisoners". No one was offended then because we knew that it was an analogy and what they meant when they used it. In fact, people were in awe of how passionate these players or coaches were about "the game". Vietnam was going on and ended during my childhood. Why did no one consider these great coaches, players, or sportscasters horrible or insensitive for these comments??

 

Before you all start blasting me for being insensitive, I have experienced GREAT tragedy and loss of family and friends in my life. I think it's horrible when people die before their times. I also know that games are not wars or terrorist attacks but I am smart enough and tolerant enough to understand a person's intent. Please allow me the opportunity to understand that intent without trying to tell me how offended or outraged I should be over it or judging me or others because we don't feel the same as you do. What's sad is someone out there in our oversensitive country will find it necessary to sue him for the mental anguish his "insensitive" statements have caused.

I've been trying to think of how to respond to this since the thread was opened. I can't express my feelings better than the above post.

Swamp and KY I agree, well thought out and he did better than I did in the 20 or so posts I posted. I was also hoping this thing will die out I wasn't gonna post anymore and move on until I saw 85s comments and the fact the ESPN poll said 64% to 35% of the nation was not offended.

 

Coach also has came out said he sure didn't mean to offend anyone and "maybe I should have used other words". So I think as we close this issue...Maybe we all were right, and the man made a mistake and admitted it.
