Frankfort 35-33.

This reminds me a lot of when Bardstown came to Mayfield in 2005, except this year mayfield travels.....this Frankfort team has the same makeup as B-town (2005). Not great at throwing the ball, but they are going to mix up the run and have prob 2 or 3 guys that can burn rubber. Mayfield rose to that challenge and there are still some of those guys playing this Friday night. Frankfort has more speed than Mayfield, but not by a lot. What I like is that Mayfield doesn't have one guy you can key on. Who is going to get it?? the quarterback, Murrell, Noonan, a pass to shelton?? Its really a toss up, because mayfield mixes it up so well, or at least they did against fulton city.......Mayfield's schedule has the edge on Frankfort's, but i don't think that means a whole lot here cause everyone from mayfield knows how dangerous Frankfort is. Mayfield will stay humble, play solid defense, and score enough points to win Friday night. Lets go Red!!

Mayfield has a very special kicker in Tommy McNutt...just hope that McNutt can go this week after getting a little banged up last Friday night. When healthy McNutt is accurate from 45-50yards out and routinely bangs the ball in the end zone and is a very good punter.

FG Kicker- is a senior been with the Panthers for 3 years. Plays soccer. Has enough leg to hit from 45 yards out. Has the ability to put the ball in the endzone. Has struggle in the cold weather due to a nagging injury.

 

Punter- is a junior- 1st year but has the ability to punt the ball 45-50 yards. He averages 40 yards easily.

Mayfield's run defense has generally been pretty good ... but it's been a while since they played a team with this much speed.

I guess that's one less playmaker mayfield has to gameplan for, that is whether he plays or not.

I'd say Tilghman had very similar team speed and the Cards really shut them down. I think PT had little in the way of a passing game, which made it easier though. If Frankfort is a threat passing, then it could be tougher to stop. Fulton City had some burners too, but, again, not a very good passing game to go with it. The Cards didn't do to great in big chunks of the 2 meetings and at others, really looked strong.. Your definately right on on your #2...

Mayfield handled the teams that ran a similar scheme to Frankfort pretty well. Frankfort's stats show that they do not fancy having to pass. I think this plays well into the Cards strengths. The biggest factors I've seen so far have been the health issues. Mayfield maybe in big trouble if McNutt is not up to the task. lawson is already done and Armstrong and Kemp have been less than 100%. ALSO IF the LONG SNAPPER problems are not fixed this week good bye Cardinals. Frankfort's health is also in question in Fields and the sophmore who had the hip pointer.

This is 1A and neither has quality spare parts (players) laying in wait for the chance.

I hope you're right. The Cards pursue from sideline to sideline pretty well. That may be the strength of there defense. It's teams that can air it out like Calloway or teams that just lined up and went straight at them is the ones that have given them problems..

The more I read and think about this game the more I like Mayfield's chances...I'm sure the team will leave early AM and stay at a hotel most of gameday afternoon to watch film, eat, and have a final prep rather than spending it on a bus/road. There is NO way the Cards should be flat for this game!

 

It does sound like Frankfort is alot like the Bardstown team from 2005 and this Mayfield definsive team is better equipped to handle speed. I think Mayfield can pass especially play action but can they stop the occasional Frankfort pass. D'coordinator Brad Lawson will have the Cards as prepared as possible and usually is able to defend the option offense.

 

I totally agree it comes down to how Mayfield's QB, OL, and K/P are health wise VS how Frankfort's QB and super soph player are come gametime. I guess I'll say:
