If the Mayfield team from the 1st 6-7 weeks shows up, they win, but, if the Mayfield team from the last 4-5 weeks shows up, Fulton City wins. At this point, it's hard to say which one will, Jeckyl or Hyde...

I will just say it's hard to beat a program like Mayfield twice in one year. Good Luck to both teams.

I gotta believe that this week we will see a more intense and physical group of Cards against Fulton City...as this one is a pride game...FC did something before that no other district team had done and win against the Cards in the regular season..albeit without three starters in the lineup. IMO Mayfield wins this game by 2 TD's IF they take care of the ball and do not make the silly penalites. If they don't take care of those things it will be another down to the wire game that could go either way.

 

FC caught the Cards at the right time and the breaks in the game during the regular season...will take the Cards 28-14 Friday night in what should be a loud atmosphere at Fulton's tiny stadium.

It is just too hard to beat a program like mayfield two times in the same year.

Mayfield just never loses to western Kentucky teams in the playoffs. If we take stroll down memory lane since the moved to four classes in 1975, we'll see they have "recently" lost to:

 

1999 - Hancock County, regional final

1997 - Murray, second round

1982 - Glasgow, second round (although the Scotties would have been considered central Kentucky at that time)

 

Against teams from basketball regions 1,2,3 and 4, Mayfield has a postseason record of 65-3 since 1975. That's why I'm picking the Cards to beat Fulton City.

Mayfield last missed the playoffs in 1980 ... Fort Campbell won the district and lost to Corbin in the state championship game.

 

Mayfield lost to Green County in the quarterfinals in 1975 ... Mike Deaton was Green's quarterback.

What was Mayfield's record in 1980 and how did they miss the playoffs? To be honest I dont recall that. The last time Mayfield even had a bad record was 1974 and I believe they were 5-5. I could be mistaken so correct me if I'm wrong.
