Kentucky loses to Gardner Webb. Coach Rupp wouldn't have played Gardner and the whole Webb family. You play teams like this and you pay the price.

Blame Smith if you choose. However, no decent basketball team with any quality of coaching gets cleaned by Gardner Webb on its home court. Blaming Smith for Gillespie's loss is not being honest. But, then, UK fans were never known for their honesty.

And, in the meantime, UK is the laughing stock of college basketball- again. At least the next Webb family reunion will be festive.

I don't get why this one is so embarrasing. It's in the final four, to the eventual National Champ (they won the final pretty easily). Georgetown was very talented. If the three for 33 number in the second half is correct (and it has to be close) that's bad, but players just missed shots. It can happen, I don't see the embarrasing part of that.

I guess because of where it took place; the final four. Like getting pasted in the Super Bowl by a great team after leading at halftime. But really FRUSTRATING more than embarrassing. Bowie, Turpin and Walker and co. just getting 11 points. To watch it unfold was terrible. Plus, it was one of the choices, it isn't just me evidently who has problems with this game.

Most ebarrassing loss is that UK ran off a coach that averaged over 20 wins a year and set the program back at least 2 years no matter who the new coach is.

Agreed :D

Didnt UK lose to Penn or Penn State? And those two brothers that had huge games against the Cats?

I'm surprised the beatdown from Indiana in 2005 isn't on this list. It would have been my selection.

I was in Indy for that one. Not a great day to be a Cat fan.

I think it was PSU and it was the Crispin brothers.

"Burnt to a Crispin" the headline read. The Crispin brothers I guess.

Rick Pitino was perhaps the most disappointed of anyone that night. He commented about wanting to take "his team" home to New York City but Pitt ruined those plans. UK had about a two-week layoff before playing Massachusetts, who they routed. Look for something similar with Coach Gillispie's bunch in a couple weeks.

Very similar situations. Little early season tourny in which UK was supposed to go up to NY city and they get hammered at home. UK was ranked in the top 5 at the time, I believe. If UK is to turn it around and make the elite 8 such as that team, then I will be VERY shocked.

This loss was the top story on Sportscenter!

:cry::cry:

Well, the TBers wanted Billy G to get UK back to being the top collegiate basketball story on ESPN. Guess they got their wish.

Its a simple game... You hit your shots you win, you miss your shots you lose. While I dont blame Tubby and never will. Players have to be able to shoot, and to BCG defense he really doesnt have any shooters, that can be counted on. Meeks can be that pure shooter UK has been looking for.

But it's the same coach who recruited these players.

I went with MTSU. I still remember Derrick Hord going 0-16 for the night. That wasn't a bad UK team. Co-SEC Champs, Minnifield, Hord, Hurt, Turpin, Master. It was a lock for UK and UL to finally meet in the next round. I think it ruined Hord's career as he went from about a 15 points per game scorer to 5 ppg his senior year in '83.

The Kansas debacle in Pitino's first year was bad but it was fed by the press and a mediocre UK team.

The Georgetown game hurt more than embarassed. It was crazy that UK led 27-15 with about 3 minutes left in the first half, Ewing had 3 fouls and Kentucky was on the verge of blowing the Hoyas out. Then it all fell apart. Part Georgetown, Part horrific shooting.

UAB gave us 2 bad losses. The one you mentioned in 2004 was tough as a #1 seed but to me it was just as bad in '81. That KY team had a healthy Bowie and Minnifield. The had defeated IU in the regular season at Bloomington but got upset by the Blazers.

The KU game was a BIG BEAT DOWN......this UK is not very good now..but BCG will turn it around
