Hypothetical Question

Featured Replies

Just a hypothetical question. Let's say a school suspends a student/athlete for 3 days for a disciplinary action. Now let's say the coach calls him at home and tells him to be at practice each day regardless of the suspension. He tells the kid to park next door, wait until 3:30 when most everyone is gone, and then come in the side door. The kid does so, at his coach's direction, even though he knows he is not allowed on school grounds while suspended. The kid practices every day, never misses a snap, finishes his suspension and plays in Friday night's game. 1) What happens to the kid if this is discovered, what is his punishment? 2) What happens to the coach who required and allowed it?

Doesn't sound hypothetical.......

Maybe the hypothetical player should have worn a hypothetical mask.

I don't think players are premitted to play/practice (on that particular day) if they miss school for any reason, be it suspension, illness or family emergency.

The kid should not be punished just because his coach is a (insert word)

it's a rules violation as well as an code of eithics violation on the part of the coach.

Sounds like someone who should not be leading young men.

Yep.

The coach should be fired! Glad my kid doesn't attend a school like this. footballfool, keep us posted on the consequences.

A student can't participate in any school activities while suspended from school. This includes practice. In Jefferson County Public Schools the student and parents are informed of this by the suspending administrator in the form of a suspension notice. This would put the player at fault and would be treated as a "failure to follow directives" violation of the board approved discipline code. The disposition for this code violation can be anything from a minimum of a parent conference to a maximum of 5 days suspension determined by the suspending administrator.

As for the coach, his punishment would be determined by the principal. The principal of this coach would have a difficult time justifying the renewal of the coaches contract and would definitely have grounds for immediate dismissal.

At least he's 'qualified'...

The kid should receive a lengthier suspension for this as he has knowledge that he is in the wrong. The coach should be reprimanded and possibly even dismissed.

The Coach is an authoritative figure and ignoring his request could have consequences for him. I find it hard to believe this situation actually happened.

NCC , I agree and disagree .

Ignoring the coach could of had consequences that may never be known ,unfortunately .Coaches have a way of getting the kids to do what they want sometimes ,once again unfortunately .

I do not find it hard to believe that this would actually happen .
