  1. Hard to predict what's gonna happen. I don't know anything about Oldham's season thus far and Fairdale has been on the good side of two blow-outs ( 44-0 against Spencer Co. in a scrimmage and 64-0 against Iroquois). I can say I believe this Fairdale team has the potential to be Coach Jonathan Miller's best he has coached. I'm anxious for Friday!
  2. Yes. Trinity always has good wideouts. Im looking forward to seeing him play next year
  3. Jefferson County Schools seem to have some very good Junior and Senior Recievers for next year. I was wondering who you guys think will be on top at the end of the season
  4. Offensive line must get better if they are to improve. The skill positions are set with returning recievers and also with some transfers that have come in
  5. Three JCPS schools will come out of first round in this one.
  6. Assistant AD usually does an in-depth program - even for away games. If you can get your hands on one of these it would be a huge help for a radio broadcast.
  7. I have never seen a situation where a student/athlete moves from one parent to another and ruled eligible.
  8. Some younger players are going to have to step up - particularly the juniors to be. This team has very few seniors (one senior - QB - on the field during 7 on 7) - the QB and a few offensive linemen (having your experience in those positions can't hurt!)
  9. TigerKat. You mentioned you know some Butler folks. Is it true that the football players were consulted by administration and played a big part in the decision to fire Lucas? Are the animals controlling the zoo?
  10. If Catlett ends up at Butler, Butler may take Male's place as the Jefferson County traditional powerhouse within 5 years.
  11. I heard today that Doug Lucas was fired at Butler High School. Can anyone confirm?
  12. Don't even attempt to negatively spin this gesture. Class move from X. I appreciate it as a public school person.
  13. I can only speak for Jefferson County - Open Enrollment is limited to the district (Jefferson County).
  14. Ballard is going to have a tough time finding a coach to replace Mark Catlett. IMO, one of the best in the state....and a great role model for student/athletes. He was replaced because he lost to Trinity too many times. I think his being a prominent voice in the Public/Private debates led some to think he didn't believe he could compete with Trinity. I'm not so sure Redmond would do any better at Ballard. I don't know Redmond, but I would be surprised someone at his stage of their career would want to make a change like this. But then again, the egos of football coaches often lead to surprising decisions:lol:
  15. What exactly should be the outer most geographical limit for a student to enroll in a private school and be eligible for athletics?
  16. Basically your saying there are roughly 1600 freshmen on average (I rounded up because the freshman class is usually the largest class) and 1600 outgoing 8th graders (including the surrounding counties). Correct? I don't think the catholic school system is hanging on to every kid from Pre-K until graduation. I think the billboards, TV ads, radio ads, newspaper ads, etc. are marketed for more than just the catholic elementary students. Anyway, no one has a problem with recruiting by the catholic schools. It is the recruiting of athletes that troubles me, particularly public school athletes who only consider catholic school after heavy recruitment from a school representative. This is wrong in Jefferson County but compounded by the same tactics in surrounding counties. Note: From the link you provided I see most catholic elementary schools offer pre-K. So your outgoing 8th grade number would be more valid if you would have divided by 10, or at least 9.5.
  17. Are the demographics of X's and T's student population made public? If so, where can I find the % of students residing outside Jefferson County. This would be very interesting to see and would shed some light on just how much of an advantage it is to be able to enroll students from the surrounding counties.
  18. That was a joke in response to C-2 of that post. Humor does not always transfer well to print. That statement was probably inappropriate anyway. I apologize.
  19. A. True B. False. The enrollments at X and T are so high largely because they recruit from several counties, even outside Kentucky in some cases. C-1. True.........because of the recruiting of an extremely large pool, several counties wide. C-2. Could be. D. There are many rational and intelligent people that are certain tuition payment is used to entice great football players. In many cases, football player who don't even know what a rosary is.
  20. I know you made the above bold statement in jest, but that is exactly what would have to happen in the case of a public/private separation or you would have the same issue with Male, Manual, or Butler (if they ever got their coaching situation settled) dominating 6A and Central dominating 3A because of advantages other schools don't enjoy. Jefferson County would still be able to offer open enrollment because of the specialty programs unique to some schools. However, if you choose to attend a school outside of your reside area, you would need to be ineligible for participation in athletics. As I've stated before, separation is the only way this debates goes away. This doesn't make it right but I truly can't understand why people can't see that it is the only way. Blaming the KHSAA for not enforcing the current rules is not rational. Recruiting is a legitimate and necessary means to success for a private school. Most private schools would fold without recruiting and all private schools would see a huge decrease in enrollment without recruiting. And, it is nearly impossible to ensure that this recruiting is for academic purposes only. This does not make the big private schools bad institutions that are full of cheaters. It is just an inherent difference that is negatively affecting football the most. Just ask Mark Catlett, one of the absolute best coaches in the state and one of the top mentors to young athletes, who lost his job today because he loses every year to Trinity High School.
  21. In 20 years, I know of one case of a student paying tuition and living outside of Jeff. Co. attending a Jeff. Co. public school. He was a football player and was ruled ineligible by the KHSAA. I can say with near certainty that there are zero Jefferson County Public School athletes residing outside of Jefferson County. I may be wrong in the case of hockey. Hockey is very new to the area and I know they have put together teams with players from just about everywhere to give the sport a boost.
  22. Whoa!! Signed off for a while. Got back on to read a little and, man, has this thread become interesting. One flaw I see in several of the posts is the belief that not enough people are going to the KHSAA with allegations. All you have to do is follow the last year or so of news in this area. There has absolutely been enough allegations with specifics to make the KHSAA aware and believe there is enough "circumstantial evidence" to warrant changes. Thus, proposal 2, for example, as a solution to slow down the illegal recruiting of public school 8th grade stars. As a voice for the public schools in a round table discussion with legislators, I could not support proposal 2 because I am an advocate for student/athletes and this proposal was just plain wrong. Penalizing a kid with the loss of 25% of his high school eligibility just didn't feel right. And this is just the proposal that made it past the Board of Control. Other proposals that didn't make it this far also focused on punishing the athlete. Proposal 2 was also wrong going the other way. What about the family who sent their child to private school through 8th grade but didn't have enough money for private high and too much money to receive financial aid. Anyway, I'm digressing. My point is that the KHSAA is fully aware of the recruiting and hears from witnesses regularly. More proof that the KHSAA is aware and accepts that it is happening is the regular proposals to hire more compliance officers in the KHSAA. Don't fool yourself into believing there has not been enough reports for the KHSAA to accept that most illegal recruiting is happening in the large private institutions. This issue and debate will NEVER EVER go away!! The only way to stop the private/public problems is to separate. Period!! I say this without believing separation is the right thing to do. Diogenes made some great points with Desales. Desales football would perish in a private only playoff system. As a matter of fact, Desales is probably hurt more by illegal recruiting from the big privates than the public schools are. The privates would have to go to a class system and the financial burden of this may be insurmountable.
  23. Warren has good speed. #1 is their stud - he is very good offensively and defensively. RB's hit the whole hard and reach full speed in about 3 steps. I also liked their play calling. They mix it up quite a bit and throw some dangerous screens at opportune times. Defense flies to the ball and gang tackles every down. They line up in a 3 - 3 defense most of the time. Very vunerable to traps. Fairdale gained yardage on traps but fell behind so far they had to pass more than they probably wanted. Once they were in that position, it was over. It's hard to pass against 5 DB's and 3 LB's. Going to have to stop the big plays, which Fairdale did not do. Warren had several 40+ yard gains. Warren had three players faster than anyone on Fairdale's team (#1, #8, #21). #5 and #7 pretty fast too. If Warren got past the Fairdale LB's they scored a TD.
