November 4, 200718 yr Seriously, what in the heck is going on in Nebraska. They gave up 76 points today...:confused:It's amazing, how they have fallen. I can remember the Huskers, as perennial National Champion contenders, every year. If you would have ever told me 10-20 years ago, that Nebraska and Notre Dame, would be the laughing stock of college football, in 2007, I would have you commited....but it's real.
November 4, 200718 yr Callahan will be axed in 3 weeks because he is to stupid and stubborn to fire his Defensive Coordinator. If they didnt have the horses I could see them losing these games but the thing is that they have a ton of talent up and down the roster this year plus a ton of talent verbally committed for next year, granted they stick with their choice after all this turmoil. Whoever the next NU head coach is will have a lot of talent to work with.
November 4, 200718 yr It is not just merely how bad they lost, but WHO they lost to. Kansas? I know they're better, but jeez....
November 4, 200718 yr It is not just merely how bad they lost, but WHO they lost to. Kansas? I know they're better, but jeez.... There have been a lot of "Firsts" for NU during the Callahan era. Most of them not very good. 2 years ago when he took the team to Lawrence they lost and ended the 36 year winning streak against the Jayhawks.
November 4, 200718 yr Maybe Notre Dame and Nebraska can meet in a Bowl game. Probably draw more ratings than 75% of the bowl games this year anyway.
November 4, 200718 yr Is it a recruiting issue, style of play, other teams just getting better or every program, will go through cycles. Does it speak more, of Coach Osborne, who players just wanted to play for.
November 4, 200718 yr Has Nebraska gone from the "Blackshirt" defense to the "Pinkshirt" defense? Embarrassing, they need to fire Callahan now. Leaving him hanging in the wind is only going to set them back further. Turner Gil and Bo Pellini are the two names heard most. Gil has done a heckuva job at Buffalo.
November 4, 200718 yr Personally I think they should have hire Bo Pelini a few years back. Instead they allow him to coach the bowl game and then fire him, now he's leading a pretty good D down in Baton Rouge. At the time the Callahan hire was strange, he was a joke in the pros, then one of the greatest programs of all times gives him the reins, he makes dramatic changes to the offense and now he's about to be canned. Any changes Tom comes back???
November 4, 200718 yr Callahan will be axed as soon as the season is over. I honestly think they will go and get Turner Gill and he will be the next head coach. He's doing a great job where he's at. He will bring back the option but it will be in the form of the shotgun. If it's not Gill they will get Bo Pelini and dump a truck load of money in his wallet.
November 4, 200718 yr They are just not good at all anymore. Sad to see a team who once dominated college football is now at the bottom of the line.
November 4, 200718 yr I thought Pelini should have gotten the job too. I didn't realize Gil was at Buff. They are having a great year too! I gave Callahan the benefit of the doubt the first couple of years. You are taking wishbone athletes and putting them in the West Coast system. People aren't patient enough to realize that is a huge transition that takes a couple of years. On the flip side Chris Hatcher at Georgia Southern has done a great job of making this adaptation. He is an Air Raid guru but walked into a situation like Callahan. He adapted running the shotgun option with his freak QB and has done a nice job. He has sprinkled his system in but it won't be fully in until he gets his kind of players. The thing with Nebraska is that the defense is absoloutly awful too! I don't know enough about their DCoordinator to comment.

IMO Turner Gill will be the next Head Coach of the "children of the corn" and imo he would be an excellent choice. I believe that he will bring in the "spread option" as well.
