Best NKY JV players?

^ He does not have a late birthday academically. Kids born in Oct. are the oldest in their class already. Age cutoff for academics is Oct. So if you were born in Sept. you would have a late birthday. Oct. is as early as you can get.

But oh well good to see he is doing well.

Wow, Alford being 18 yrs old early in his Junior year is amazing. Why didnt anyone hold me back? I turned 18 three months after I graduated. Physically this kid will have a major advantage especially during his senior year. To be 5 months from 20 yrs old the day you graduate is just beyond me, I dont know.

I believe Travis turned 17 in Oct. of '07. That means he will turn 19 in Oct. of '09 of his senior year. You can not be 19 before August of your senior year.

Not sure that is a great thing.

However, if you want to talk about great young JV players...my vote would be for Kody Klug from Beechwood. One heck of a tough player as a soph. Might be barely 16. You will hear a lot about him in the next 2 years, I guarantee that!

How old is Travis Alford? Is this the same Alford that played for Newport Fire Fighters seniors 2-1/2 years ago? If it is the same Alford I think my kid played against him in NKYFL 2-1/2 years ago when Alford was 15. If so that would make him 18 (?) now as a sophomore. Just curious, how old are HS sophomores? Kid was a great athlete.

Did Alford play youth football in the NKYFL as a 15 year-old? I thought the age requirements was 13?

They could have held you back 3 years and it still wouldn't have been of much help!:D:I know you want to rationalize the, ahem, uh, how do I put this delicately, total stinkiness of your high school athletic career, but the fact you turned 18 3 months after you graduated was NOT the problem. Just kidding.

On a serious note, folks are making more of this issue than they should in my opinion. You'd be very, very surprised of the number of kids that have been started late or held back through out the state of Kentucky. A whole lot of the time for very valid reasons.

And have a Merry Christmas my friend.

Im not rationalizing anything just making a point that my Sophomore year in college I was 19 and working out pretty religiously and went from 160lbs (graduated) to 185lbs. Now, I will say at that point I had a little bit more incentive to workout (college girls) if you know what I mean. :thumb:

No state championships to talk about LN but truly enjoyed the career I had at my school. Played in 120+ Varsity Basketball/Baseball games and 20 varsity football games and made some great friends (enemies :D)along the way.

Merry Christmas to you and the family. Go Birds

You do realize that I was just kidding about the stinkiness of your high school athletic career, right? Based on your post, it seems that you took my post as being serious. Which my post could not have been, because I never saw you play or even heard of you when you were playing in high school, which means you probably did stink (OK, I'm kidding again:D).

Thanks for the Christmas greetings. Same back at you and your family. Hope to run into you at a Highlands BBall game this winter. Take care.

Yes, I know you were kidding LN. But you owe me a stiff Woodford next time you see me. :D I hope to see you up at the Sauna as well the Birds are looking good. 6-0.

Keep us posted on those JV studs as well. I am looking forward to seeing those kids develop over next couple years and carry the torch.

Wow. The imagine going through my head right now is frightening. While I'm not completely familiar with the euphemism above, I'm not sure its appropriate for this forum.

Let me re-phrase. Hope to see you up at Russell Bridges Memorial Gymnasium (Highlands' Varsity Basketball gym) like Mustang over the Basketball threads likes to emphasize. I call it the Sauna because in the winter it gets very steamy in there and the floor can get very slick. I guess I better read my post before hitting send. But thanks for pointing that out.
