Did Alford play youth football in the NKYFL as a 15 year-old? I thought the age requirements was 13?

 

In one of the last games of the season Travis knocked a kid from Raiders out cold. After that the league would not let any of the kids in the NKYFL play if they were over the age limit. I think Newport had 3 or 4 kids overage, but they were allowed to play because they only had about 14 kids on the team.

Wow, Alford being 18 yrs old early in his Junior year is amazing. Why didnt anyone hold me back? I turned 18 three months after I graduated. Physically this kid will have a major advantage especially during his senior year. To be 5 months from 20 yrs old the day you graduate is just beyond me, I dont know.

 

There is lot of youngmen throughout the state of KY., That has their 19th Birthday after August 1st, we would all be surprised!! If these boys are getting a good education and if they do play sports and it betters the youngman's chances of getting a scholarship, I say good luck!! Some of the posters act like they are scared of this Travis Alford kid!! The KHSAA makes rules and now let the kids play and at there own level set by the State.

How old is Travis Alford? Is this the same Alford that played for Newport Fire Fighters seniors 2-1/2 years ago? If it is the same Alford I think my kid played against him in NKYFL 2-1/2 years ago when Alford was 15. If so that would make him 18 (?) now as a sophomore. Just curious, how old are HS sophomores? Kid was a great athlete.

The age rule is set by the state legislature.

Hey guys let the age issue go. As noted, the KHSAA ruling has been reviewed by the Ky. Medial Association. Apparently they're comfortable with it and don't feel the need to alter or change it. Now, lets get back to the topic and talk about up and coming players from the JV squads around N. Ky. For the Birds I would classify Schlosser -OL, Alford - LB, Dierig - DL, Hogue - WR, Bardo - QB, Combs - OL, Fennell - RB and Buten - WR/CB. Add these players in with the current Varsity players and the Birds will be ready to defend their title. Note, all these players are Sophomores. I classify the Juniors as Varsity even though they did play in some JV games.

As far as Highlands is concerned, I'm waiting to see what happens in the next three months with Highlands JV. We'll see what freshman are stepping up in weights to contribute to the JV team and we will also see who on this years JV are stepping it up to become varsity players. Obviously JV players that are going to be major contributers to next years varsity are Turner, Head, Bardgett, Newman, Martin, and Frank

just to name a few, that will be major contributors to next years varsity. Abner and Klingenberg, who because of injury were out this year will also definately be in the mix of players that contribute to the varsity.

 

The quarterback situation is interesting to say the least. You have a really good quarterback in Austin Abner coming up from the freshman team. You have Bardo and Guidiuli battling it out for Varsity. Not only that you have Turner who stepped in at JV when Bardo went out with an injury who also has a nice touch when it comes to passing the ball.

 

Spring football will be fun and interesting at Highlands this year.

Henry...your analysis is very astute. I think back to the JR's Frosh year. They were not "predicted" by the coaching staff to win the championship. (.500 I believe was the prediction). All they did was surpass the stats of current Sr's and went undefeated in a romping fashion!). My point being, don't sell this class short! There are a lot of JR's that saw significant time and will be ready to show their stuff...add in an undefeated as frosh Soph class that has a number of stellar players and the Birds SHOULD be the early favorite to repeat. Now that's a LOT to say and extremely difficult to do...but it is the GOAL! And I have to add a great big "thank you" to the SR's for setting the bar. They now know what is EXPECTED! They will be better for having to practice and observe you guys every day! Can't wait for next year!!

Best soph. I seen play was Andrew Eschman at Campbell County. Started out as JV. Started varsity a little over half a year and threw for over 1100 yards on varsity. Throws the ball real well.

Is the NKYFL Guru, Keith Culp the QB coach?? If he is that explains why the back-up did that well. Watch what he does with Michael Kramer!!

Culp is the offensive coordinator. Look for him to return to double duty next year and return to the Red Devils' senior sideline.
