I'm a Chevy man myself. I like the Toyota Tundra's. Have owned a Datsun B210 at one time.

Based on TWO vehicals? I think I'll wait until I see a bigger trend in the cars before I buy one from the big 3. I would look first at Ford if I were in the market for a pickup.

 

 

The Fusion and new Taurus are absolutely better cars than the foreign counter parts, look at the reviews in the formerly pro-BMW, Toyota, and Honda magazines.

 

BMW is still their #1 car but the Nissan G37 along with the Fusion, and Taurus/500 are getting great reviews for the first time since the 80's

The last 2 F-150's I've had, a 1995 and a 2000 model have each given me well over 200K miles with only routine maintenance. I sold the '95 off when it had 248K miles and I still see it being driven by the guy I sold it to. The '00 model has 263K miles on it. I still have it and use it around the house. These trucks prove to me American quality is up with or even better than our foreign competitors.

This is only true for 1980 model Toyota's, especially the pick-ups.

American is a reference to companies incorporated in the states that keep their profits in the states, not send them back to the motherland. There are several companies that have facilities domestically and provide jobs here, but their profits do more to benefit the economy of their home country rather than the US.

I'll keep my Honda's and Toyota. I had a Ford Taurus that had the head gasket blow with 80K. The car was never the same. Give me the quality car and I will buy it.

I have a 2003 Saturn, 65,500 on it, and a 1977 Chevy pickup with 30,000. No problems from either.

We also have a 2003 Ford 150 pick up truck. I guess we'll see which vehicle last's the longest.

I have to argue with the 'buy American' tag. Toyota has brought thousands of good paying jobs to the region and has greatly boosted the wealth of Kentuckians. GM and Ford and Toyota are also publicly traded companies whose owners are stockholders who may or may not be Americans. GM and Ford have moved many jobs around the globe. Their business model didn't change with the times and their companies are in serious trouble. Their poor management has left Detroit and Michigan economy in shambles. I would love to buy American on all my products, especially major purchases such as cars or computers or televisions, but it is getting more difficult all the time...

Typically, Consumer Reports will recommend a vehicle only if it has at least one year of reliability data. New and redesigned Toyota models had been exempted from that standard because of the company's record.

 

To me, this is misleading. I've always been told to never buy a car in it's first year of manufacturing because they don't know exactly what could go wrong until it is mass-produced. This is the first year for the new style of Camry's and Tundra's. Based on their track record of making great cars, they test the first year of a model and it tested bad. That's almost expected.

 

A buddy bought a Matrix the first year it came out and there are a lot of little things that have gone wrong. He'll never do that again, either...

I've owned a Ford once, bottom seal was out of it, never the less I drove it until I traded it off. For a Chevy Camaro with an Eastland engine that was B-A-D.

Its where where are. The "Detroit 3" (no longer can they be called "the Big 3") will take a long time, if ever, to get back to anywhere near where they used to be.
