I know numerous GM and Fords on the road today with 200,000 plus miles, my mom has had 2 Crown Vics with that put on them in, each being 5 years old when they hit the mark, a 1994 and 1999 model. The small block Chevy's and Ford 4.6's in V8's as well as the Chevy 4.3 and Ford 4.0 are dang near bulletproof..................and the bodies don't rust down like a Toyota.

October 17, 200718 yr My Saturn (GM) had to have the transmission replaced at 75000 miles. My Honda CRV just turned over 190,000... I had a Grand Prix for about 2 years that I put $3000 in trying to get it to run right. My brother has an accord with 210000. My dad drove a Civic Hatchback to 320000 - he now has a Pilot. Just my experiences...

The last 2 F-150's I've had, a 1995 and a 2000 model have each given me well over 200K miles with only routine maintenance. I sold the '95 off when it had 248K miles and I still see it being driven by the guy I sold it to. The '00 model has 263K miles on it. I still have it and use it around the house. These trucks prove to me American quality is up with or even better than our foreign competitors. BUY AMERICAN!

October 17, 200718 yr I truly have to laugh at these "Buy American" quotes. Yes, Ford is based in the US and Toyota is based in Japan. However, Toyotas are made with a higher percentage of parts from the US than Fords, and almost all the ones that we buy today are made in the US. Has the quality of Ford's risen? Only time will tell. Their trucks have usually been known for higher quality, and will last 200,000+ if properly maintained. Has Toyota's quality fallen? I'd say yes. It's evident with all the problems with their new vehicles, especially the new Tundra with the 5.7 liter engine. Toyota got greedy, and wanted to overtake the US automakers. They have gotten away from their proven suppliers in favor of cheaper ones, which has directly resulted in lower quality vehicles.
October 17, 200718 yr "Buy American" is a bogus ploy. The Toyota Sienna mini-van has more American made parts than any van on the market. It's also assembled in America. I have friends that work for Ford and GM but I have a lot more that work for Toyota. That's as American as it gets. I have a Sienna and at the time, there wasn't a better van on the market, value wise...

I think I'll wait until I see a bigger trend in the cars before I buy one from the big 3. I would look first at Ford if I were in the market for a pickup.

October 17, 200718 yr Pick-ups are currently the ONLY thing I'd think about buying from Ford, Dodge or Chevy... I'd agree, but I'd remove Dodge. And I'd have to narrow it down to full-size trucks only as I'd remove Rangers and Colorados from that list.
