As for Ashland's "tough schedule", I suppose it depends on what other school schedules are used as a comparison. Ashland's schedule is made up of its own district teams (most of whom are average at best), two Class A schools (neither a remote threat to go to Papa John Stadium), two of the worst 4A treams in the state, Russell (a borderline Top 10 Class 3A school), and Ironton (a real "tradition" having a off year with a group of youngsters).

To start with, I know you want to prove your argument. I don't care if Ashalnd schedule is weak or not. Strength of schedule is a matter of opinion for the most part. But, my problem is: in trying to prove your argument you speak very badly of some good football teams/programs, and some of your information in wrong.

Pikeville

You say they do not have a remote chance of going to the State Finals.

In reality they have a very good chance. They have been in the top 10 in Class A the whole year. Pikeville has a very good program, and will compete with everyone.

Raceland

You say they do not have a remote chance of going to the State Finals. I think they have as much chance as anyone. In my opinion, the the four teams that have a shot of going to the finals from this side of the state, are: LCA, Pikeville, Raceland, and Hazard. Raceland having a one in four shot is pretty good in my book.

Russell

You call Russell a borderline Top 10 Class 3A school. Come on, even you can't believe this. Will Russell win the Championship this year? I don't know, but to say they possible do not deserve to be in the top 10 in 3A is just wrong.

Ironton

You say Ironton a real "tradition" having a off year with a group of youngsters. You may be right on his one.

Boyd Co. and Greenup Co.

They are having a down season, but how do you think that the players from the those two schools feel to see people call them the worst two 4A schools in the state.

I thought there was a consensus of opinion to change it to the "So So Seven". That would solve all the disagreement, wouldn't it?

Now, that may be a good schedule for the northeast corner of the state where football is not superior by any stretch of the imagination but it pales in comparison with other similar schools with thye Ashland "tradition".

The truth is Ashland is not a good team at all. But, for the So So Seven, it is probably placed correctly. Still, it is a good thing for Ashland that they don't play any of those northern Kentucky schools. It would be brutal- even at Putnam Stadium.

Repeatedly using the excuse of the "tough schedule" doesn't make it true.

I have been very critical of Ashland this year. But These examples that you hae used with "average at best" district teams and Russell a borderline top 10 team in 3a. Maybe Ashland would get beat pretty bad to those Northern Ky teams but dont downgrade all of the teams they have played.

By the way which Northern Ky teams are you talking about????

Russell (a borderline Top 10 Class 3A school),

Yeah that "borderline" school has just went to the State title games the last two seasons and just lost to a 6A Northern KY school by one points in dramatic fashion. That's REAL borderline there.

I gotta disagree with you on this one. Ironton is really not very good. This is not the Ironton of old. Give Lutz a couple of more years and it will be.

I agree that they are not the Ironton of old (yet) - but still good enough to beat most of the Super-7, IMO.

Wait a minute. I think that Ironton is 5 - 2. After losing 2 striaght games at the start of the season they have won 5 striaght....

AND Murphy (their beast 275 lb. FB and NG) didn't play in the first 2 games. He makes them more of a threat.

I'm not saying Ironton is good - but I do think they would beat most of the Super-7 this year.

Boy, these attempts at rebutting my post are great reading. There is a lot of heart in them although little else.

Ram:

I know you aren't serious when you say that Pikeville can "compete with anyone". That is ridiculous (Lex Cath 38 Pikeville 6: Belfrey 49 Pikeville ).

Raceland has a "one in four" chance of going to the finals? How did Raceland do against LCA earlier in the season? Forget it.

I never said that BC and GC were the worst 4A schools in the state. I said they were two of the worst. I doubt that my analysis makes the kids who play at those two schools feel any worse than they already do.

The Red Rambler:

Whatever Russell accomplished the last two years has no relevance to this season.

happy 'ol dad:

When you look at the 5-A schools around the state, this district cannot be rated higher overall than average at best.

Which northern Kentucky schools did I have in mind? Most of them.

I don't wish to upset you guys but, every now and then, we need a dose of realism. The kids are more perceptive than you think. They know too well just how they stack up against other teams. To continually patronize them actually insults them- or, at least, in the real world, it should.

By the way, I will be rooting for Russell and its fine coach, Ivan McGlone.

The Red Rambler:

I'm sorry I've seen Russell play several times this year. To say they are a "borderline" Top 10 3-A team is insulting to the fans, the kids, the program, and the staff. I am most certainly a Russell fan, but I by no means a Russell fan like some of the other Russell fans on here. My son goes there, my Father played there, and I went there for a time, but my heart belongs to the Orange and Black down down the road. So I am not looking at this thing through any maroon glasses. I follow them and cheer for them, but come October 26th my loyalties lie elsewhere. So I am able to look at things objectively here.

Russell in this "down" season is 7-1 and they definitely deserve to be not only in the Top 10, but the Top 5 3-A teams in the state based on their play on the field. They have played the schedule put in front of them and walked away so far with only one scratch to a 6A school...by a point. If that's not Top 10 then I don't know what is. :fight:

We shall see come playoff time I suppose. :ylsuper: If I am wrong, I will gladly eat my plate of crow with mashed potatoes.

Who cares about being 2-7?

If your not the lead dog the view never changes.

:laugh::laugh::thumb: You are right Graybeard, the view never changes and the smell is the same :D.

:thumb::thumb: I agree again Graybeard. As for who I think that Ironton could beat on the list.......I will refrain from saying. :D

With regards to Pikeville, you said they did not have a chance to make it to the championship game. I said they had a good chance, and they do, look at all the 1A polls, they are good. When I said they could compete with anyone, I was referring to their chances of making the championship game, and competing with all 1A schools in the playoffs. If and when they loose in the playoffs, it will be a close score. And as you pointed out they have played some very good bigger schools, which will help them in their playoff situation.

Perhaps you do not remember last season, or you just do not know as much as you believe you do. But LCA beat Raceland last year in the regular season, then in the playoffs, Raceland beat LCA. And if you read my post, you know that the one in four chance that I spoke of, included LCA, so if LCA beats Raceland, I do not see it as an upset.

You can spin it however you want, but your first post was wrong on many levels, and everyone who has posted knows it, but you.

Your further clarification of your post is appreciated. And you say I am the spinner? You can have Raceland and Pikeville. I'll take Beechwood and LCA. We'll see.

What Northern Ky teams were you talking about?

Jsut name me 3 , you said most of them but I just want 3...

Cov Catholic (even though they're having a down year)

:thumb:No problem with the clarification, I probably could have clarified that better in my original post. But, now you throw in Beechwood. We were not talking about the other side of the state. Beechwood and Mayfield are definitely the top picks to make it to the championship game from that side of the bracket. And, we can agree on LCA being one of the four teams that have a chance from this part of the state.

If I had to pick the two teams that will play in the finals in 1A, right now, I would pick Pikeville and Beechwood. But, LCA and Mayfield would not surprise me either. Raceland, Hazard, and Frankfort would be my wild cards.
