St. X, Trinity recruiting alleged: Southern Indiana schools complaining

Featured Replies

It's a poorly written article and I don't like how Duece was named in it, as it alludes to some sort of improper handling of his situation. If the author feels the need to include his name and his father, then he should have attempted to get a quote from them about why he chose to go where he did.

All in all, it's nothing more than a contorversial article based upon zero hard facts, designed to sell a paper. The story is the second most read article on the online edition, so it's serving its purpose.

That said, if any allegations are true and this is in fact a coach, Donhoff will rightfully let them go.

KHSAA bylaws specifically state that anyone associated with the program can not openly recruit for athletic purposes. That's anyone from administration, faculty, staff, coaches (whether volunteer or otherwise) AND parents.

To me, that's impossible for a coach to enforce and the KHSAA to monitor. I guess they see it as 'lack of institutional control' but heck, some times coaches can't control the kids much less the parents...

What was the date, time and location that this all took place?

Give a description of "the coach"

I didn't imply it was a Coach or fan of X... just sharing what was printed and wondering the same thing as Tony about how weird it would be for a man in a X costume to talk to kids in public.

The kid was quoted and he is a kid afterall.

I go to games in Bama stuff at Male the last four years and I was careful in talking to the kids. (Douglas)

A booster got us in a heck of lot of trouble once.

Excellent points. It is not possible for schools to control the actions of everyone who is somehow "associated" with the program. The KHSAA rule is unrealistic when it extends beyond coaches and school employees.

I would venture a guess that every school is guilty of violation of this rule. Of course, we all suspect that some are moreso than are others. However, those schools seem to dodge scrutiny.

I agree Buddy...why didn't they ask Mr. Finch if his son was "recruited" to come to X to play football? I suspect they did but just didn't want to report his answer. Why didn't they report that Duece played 4 years in the CSAA for St. Anthony before coming to X? If rules were broken I expect heads will roll as suggested by Mr. Donohoff.

Bad journalism all the way around.

First, Nothing was alleged against Trinity yet they are thrown into the headline.

Second, nothing is alleged against Duece, yet his inclusion implies some sort of impropriety.

Third, this is not an article by Jason Frakes or Jody Demling - typically they are more ethical/responsible. C. Ray Hall should be writing for Tiger Beat.

Fourth, Robby Valentine is one of the last people on the planet that I would want to have ANY influence on my children, let alone hold the position of school board vice president.

X and T should hold their heads high. They are above this.

Very similar, IMO, to the NCAA problems we have. A coach can warn his boosters all he wants, however he can't control them...

As stated...

Sec. 2) Definition

Recruiting is defined as an act, on behalf of or for the benefit of,

a school, which attempts to influence a student to transfer to a

member school for the purpose of participating in athletics. A

school official utilizing an intermediary, such as, but not limited

to a peer, another school employee, a student, a parent or a

citizen, for the purpose of recruiting a student athlete shall be

in noncompliance.

Good luck proving the bolded, if there were allegations...

Here is a question for those of you who know me. If I was to talk to a kid or parent about going to T or X...is that a violation???

Possibly. X, I'd say yes. T, not sure...
