You all were so helpful to me and my family when (and since) my nephew suffered a broken leg during a little league football game last year. I thought I'd give you a little update.

 

This morning, he went into surgery to have the bars removed from his leg bones. Everything went fine, and he's in recovery. The doctor said he just needs to be careful for a month or two to avoid twisting his leg. After that, I guess he's good to go!

 

He'll be playing baseball this spring; but, beyond that I don't know what he'll want to do. But if it means anything...he was outside playing football yesterday.

 

Thanks again for all of the support, prayers, and well-wishes from our BGP family. And a special thanks to the players and adults of Walton, Gallitin Co., the NEKJFL, and Raceland.

Wonderful news! Thank God he is going to fully recover.

Right now he's telling his dad that he doesn't want to play anymore. They only had another game or two anyway. But hopefully, he'll reconsider with the passing of some time. But that's the least of importance right now. We just need to get him through this surgery and back to himself again. Garret and his sister were just with us Friday night at the Highlands game. He was all excited because he got to stand next to Chris Collinsworth. He really has gotten into football, and I hope he gets to continue.

Well, it took four long years for Garret (soon to be an 8th grader) to put aside the memories of that terrible day, when he broke his leg so horribly, while playing football. But I am very happy to report that he's decided to play football this season for the Walton-Verona Middle School football team. We are all super-excited for him, but this has to be about him wanting to play. That said, it seems he is ready to hit the gridiron once again. He did great at a little mini-camp they held recently, so he's looking to be in good shape for the upcoming season.

It is probably sitting there in the back of his mind but when he takes that hit and everything is ok, it should be like someone flipping the switch. Thanks VOR. You can be sure that we will all be second-guessing ourselves the first time he gets clobered on a play -- which we all know is inevitable in football.
