I have called with folks across the state and I do not see much difference with officiating.... Now as far as the numbers game, regions do differ....

Well in geographical terms, Somerset is not in the Mountains, but WYMT gives them alot of coverage so I just think of them as a Mountain team, and I thought Somerset did as well.

 

But to the real matter. You are right. Officating is no difference in the Mountains than it is in any other parts of the state. Everyone is going to have some bad experiences that they could percieve as cheating. But saying you have to score 6 TD's for 3 to count is absurd and an overgeneralization.

JC has some very talented players who will step up and Matney will have a game plan to slow Lou Central down. JC by a touchdown and this will start the momentum for JC to win out the rest of the regular season and on the the playoffs. Go Eagles!

Johnson Central's reputation was built off of last season's success. They were exposed against Woodford County--who is not as good as Louisville Central's team. Louisville Central 42, Johnson Central 20.

 

 

Somerset, and all of the Pulaski County teams get WYMT on their local cable so they are included in the Mountain Top 10 Rankings. Besides have you ever been to Somerset? It ain't exactly flat.

I couldn't agree more. I don't think Johnson Central is anywhere close to the team that had last year. Even last year's team struggled with the speed of Covington Catholic and they've struggled with the speed of Woodford County earlier. Central has more speed than either of those two. The only way this game is close is that it is played at Johnson Central...I'll still take Louisville Central 39-22.

This game will determine whether Johnson Central is a legitimate contender for the 5A title or not. I think play on the line will determine the outcome of this game more than speed. If Johnson Central can control the line of scrimmage and avoid putting the ball on the ground then they have enough speed to handle any team in the state. If the Golden Eagles get pushed around up front then speed will kill.

 

Covington Catholic had an overall speed advantage last season, but it was depth that determined that game's outcome. If Johnson Central has an advantage on the line against Louisville Central, then I would expect Matney to employ a game plan similar to the one that was so effective in the first half of the CovCath game last year. Matney will try to keep the Yellowjackets' offense on the sideline by using long drives and forcing Louisville Central's middle linebackers to make a lot of plays.

 

Does anybody know how the two teams compare up front and how good the Louisville Central linebackers are?

Louisville Central is a balanced team. They have both the abillity to run and pass but lean more towards the run. The only team this year to shut them down has been Lou. Male. In all other games, they have racked up big yards on the ground and had a couple of 200+ passing performances. Its going to be a test for the Eagles, I look forward to seeing how we step up and play a quality team like Lou. Central.

Too much speed for JC to handle 35-14 Central.

Lou. Central has speed, but are VERY big and strong as well. But they do play several payers both ways, and have gotten a little tired in the 2nd half of some games. And for all thier speed, they are pretty much a straight ahead, no frills run-right-at-you offensive team.

 

In the past teams that made Central play "assignment football" has had success with them, but the new coach (Scroggins) has them playing much more disciplined football than ever before. A bad sign if you can't match them athletically. Don't let thier 3-A classification fool you either, they are as good as many teams in classes higher.

I remember thinking the interior D-Line caused a great deal of pressure up the middle disrupting Manual's running game. Neither the line backers nor the offensive line left any impression on me, but the general rule with Central is that they are probably bigger, faster, and stronger than you (I say this as a 6A team viewing a 3A team). Beating them requires playing sound football, even if the physical mismatch is extreme, Central has had the tendency to give enough opportunities to opponent to close the athletic gap.

 

Maybe I just haven't been paying attention, but I can't recall very many, if any, Lou vs EKY match ups. I'm very interested as to how this game plays out. I'd love for those who watch it to give a very detailed report in the post game.

This is the second Louisville vs. EKY matchup this season, Pikeville defeated Lou. Holy Cross in the Pike County Bowl.

 

Last year, Lou. Western made the trip to Jackson and defeated Breathitt County.

 

The last time (maybe the only time) one of the Big 3 came to the mountains was either in 96 or 97 when Male defeated Belfry 7-0 to start the season.

 

The fact that Central is primarily a smashmouth team makes this game even more interesting and works much more in JC's favor.
