This is the second Louisville vs. EKY matchup this season, Pikeville defeated Lou. Holy Cross in the Pike County Bowl.

 

Last year, Lou. Western made the trip to Jackson and defeated Breathitt County.

 

The last time (maybe the only time) one of the Big 3 came to the mountains was either in 96 or 97 when Male defeated Belfry 7-0 to start the season.

 

The fact that Central is primarily a smashmouth team makes this game even more interesting and works much more in JC's favor.

 

JC's run defense has been pretty solid this year. So you are right, this should play into JC's favor, but Central has the ability to put the ball in the air as well. This is going to be a good test for JC in all aspects.

Well in geographical terms, Somerset is not in the Mountains, but WYMT gives them alot of coverage so I just think of them as a Mountain team, and I thought Somerset did as well.

 

But to the real matter. You are right. Officating is no difference in the Mountains than it is in any other parts of the state. Everyone is going to have some bad experiences that they could percieve as cheating. But saying you have to score 6 TD's for 3 to count is absurd and an overgeneralization.

 

You know this comes up every once in a while on BGP. I have heard people talk about how the refs were bad and if you go play at Ashland you have to score more, or if you go to Russell the flaggs will fly. It is said in a way that makes you believe the Refs have been corrupt. I'm sorry but I have just not seen this. Not at all. Yes I have seen the refs make bad calls. Bad calls for both teams. All in all I think the Refs do a great job.

Somerset football I'm going to agree with you on this. When a good team from 1 region travels to play a good team in another region the officiating has always been lopsided in my 19 years of watching high school football. It seems that officials let thier regional pride get in the way. IMO. It however is not just an EKY thing. When does a team go into NKY and beat a good team? Or WKY or LOU.

Thanks, but one thing you must understand is that most fans, know rules from college and NFL. Those rules differ on Friday night. I cannot tell you how many times I have been cursed because I flag pass int when the ball is well over the receivers' head or when we flag qb for grounding when he is outside the pocket, wrong level..... These are the bad calls that most folks mention.

 

Understand, officiating is all about philosophy and understanding the game while using judgement to make the RIGHT call.

I don't see this, not in my games or with the crew that I call with. We work some big games during reg and in post season, I just don't see it. I would like to see officials to be put into four regions and work that entire region. That means if I live in the 13th, I could possibly work in the 15th on some games.... I would really like to see this happen and I hear it maybe happening as soon as next year.

Very interesting matchup as #1 3A Lou. Central makes the lengthy trek to Paintsville to battle the 5A Golden Eagles.

 

Definite clash of geography, fan bases, and playing styles. JC struggled mightily with Woodford's speed, how will they handle Central's? Central has been vulnerable to physical/disciplined teams over the past years, will the trend continue?

Usually when you catch a superior team at their place you squeak by something like 24-21. Woodford went on the road and DOMINATED JC by 3 touchdowns--JC is not the same team as last year and they will lose soundly this week.

Heck, if I remember correctly Woodford led 30-0 at one point and 37-8 after three quarters. That's real domination.
