Storming the field

Featured Replies

I think it's much better with the collapsing goal posts, the most frightening thing to me during a "storming" episode is the posts falling onto a crowd of people. I don't think I'd storm the field again but I did it once in the Orange Bowl after Miami upset #1 UCLA in '99, I remember it clearly to this day, and it was very dangerous entering the field, at that point people aren't really thinking rationally, and a ton of damage could possibly occur.

I know I caught some flak a couple weeks ago for saying that UK fans shouldn't have rushed the field after the UL game. Now we're 5-0 and ranked in the Top 10 nationally. I think this makes the storming the field question even more pertinent. Who do we rush for and who don't we? Here's my take-

LSU- Yes.

Florida- No.

MSU- Of course not.

UT- No.

Thoughts?

LSU yes, UF yes!..LSU might be ranked #1 in country when we play them so definitely yes! Florida yes because I mean we haven't beaten Florida in forever so need to celebrate that if we win...Then for UT well that would depend, I mean we haven't beaten them in forever but we probably will be favorite but that game could decide if we go the SEC championship game, so if we win that to get to the SEC championship, then heck yes storm the field!!!

I totally disagree!

The real issue here is not to let the kids enjoy it. There is the issue of injuries involved with that many people storming the field. Remember "The Who" concert in Cincinnati? Who would have thought something like that might happen?

Ask UK radio broadcaster Tom Leach for his opinion about the fans storming the field. His son suffered a broken arm during the horseplay on the field after the Louisville game.

Also, I have been told that, as of right now, Mitch Barnhart is going to increase security and not going to allow it to happen anyway.

I totally agree with you. That is one of the main reasons, if not the main reason that the SEC and other conferences put in this rule, it's a safety issue, not only for the fans, but for all the players, coaches ect on the field. Not to mention the damage to the field, which isn't the primary concern.

I say make it known that if you are a student and you storm the field, then you get kicked out of school, plain and simple. If you are not a student then you get banned from all UK home events for life!

For those who disagree, then how about going to a pro game and try storming the field of your favorite team after a win? That's right, you can't, well you could but you will get arrested, as you should if you storm a college field or court.

You made a very good point on The Who concert/tragity in Cincinnati. I would rather have a college tell me that my kid was kicked out of school for storming the field, than to have then call me to say that my kid was seriously injured or died as a result of a stampede of people rushing the field. Plus, can you say lawsuit? o one sees tragedies like this coming, but its better to play it safe than to be sorry later.

The intensity/emotion at the end of a game also has an influence on storming the field. Beat LSU 38-14 while leading since the 2nd quarter, no storming the field. Beat LSU 22-21 on a last second field goal, STORM the field.

I'd say Florida, LSU and Tenn it will happen if you like it or not. They have to win them first though.

:thumb:I agree.

I don't really agree with rushing the field on any game except maybe a championship.

I hope they don't rush the field if they happen to win any of those games. LSU will be the toughest to keep them off with the high ranking the Tigers will have (probably still #1 or #2) and what happened the last time LSU was at Commonwealth being shown on ESPN so many times.

I just go by everyone else's reaction . I waited for everyone else to storm vs Georgia and Louisville before I ran on...I sure wasn't going to be the first one on the field.

Not the best comparison there at all...

Do I remember "The Who?" Yes, my friend broke a leg.

Have I missed the news , though, where we've had these types of incidents when kids storm the field?

It takes a great deal of character to handle prosperity and storming the field does not show very much of it after a while.

Storming the field is now being tied to character? Wow.

Would NEVER rush a field/court etc..I think it is silly!

Seriously...maybe you haven't been there before, but it's ridiculous to excuse behavior on the "let 'em have fun" tag. It costs the university money, big money, when it happens. You think that money could be put to better use within the program? Or do you have a line on the P&L "Fines for fan infractions"? And before you say "they're kids", there were some pretty old "kids" in the pics that I say!

.

NFL fans don't go to school with the NFL players on the field.

Obviously, I'm in the minority but I say let the students rush the field and celebrate with the players. Ask the UK players if they felt threatened or did they think it was cool.

I'll assume that was aimed at me.

$25k is now a lot of money??

Mitch: Hello, Super Booster? I hope you had fun at the UL game. Awesome experience for the fans. Did your son have fun when he stormed the field? Awesome . Glad to hear. Been a long time. By the way, I'm sure you saw where the SEC fined us $25k for your son and the others who had a great time storming the field. Can you help us out? Great. Look forward to seeing you at the next game. Thanks.

It was aimed at anyone who'd posted anything like I referenced.

Seriously...$25K isn't a lot of money? What about the next time when it's $50K? Then, you're up to $75K for the season. Do it again? Add on some more moola. You're shortsighted in your thinking.
