September 30, 200719 yr I know I caught some flak a couple weeks ago for saying that UK fans shouldn't have rushed the field after the UL game. Now we're 5-0 and ranked in the Top 10 nationally. I think this makes the storming the field question even more pertinent. Who do we rush for and who don't we? Here's my take- LSU- Yes. Florida- No. MSU- Of course not. UT- No. Thoughts?

I'm with you, except UK hasn't won against Tennessee in 25+ years. I think that if they win against the Vols, the fans will rush the field. I'm not saying it's worthy, but I think that's what will happen. P.S. I love counting my chickens before they hatch!!

I'm not saying it's worthy, but I think that's what will happen. P.S. I love counting my chickens before they hatch!! The UT game is a big question. But for the first time in a long time we'll more than likely be favored to win. If we're still a Top 15 national team, then I say the butts should stay in the seats. But, of course, I have a feeling that the field will be rushed for every home win from here on out save MSU.
October 1, 200719 yr I say storm it whenever you get the urge. College football is also for the fans. If its a big deal to them, have at it. What's the downside? What other people think? Screw that.
October 1, 200719 yr Author If in the highly unlikely case that UK wins out, what would the fine be for storming the field after the UT game?
October 1, 200719 yr Rich Brooks said on his radio show after the U of L win that he would rather not have the fans rush the field for any more wins. I have to agree with him. At some point, if you're going to be a consistent winner on a national level, you have to start "acting like you've been there before."
October 1, 200719 yr Coach Brooks also emphasized the damage to the playing field. It takes a lot if work to maintain a top quality playing surface. 50,000 feet take their toll and Donnie and crew only have week to get surface ready for play. I think we don't need the what if card if the turf takes a potentially great play away from us.

At some point, if you're going to be a consistent winner on a national level, you have to start "acting like you've been there before." We haven't been there before. Let the kids enjoy it. If a team wants to scoff after we've waxed them on the scoreboard, who cares? Act like we've been there before when we haven't? Its like telling a Marine who has been overseas for 4 years to "act like you've been there before" when he gets home to his wife. Lots of pent up energy.

Lots of pent up energy. I totally disagree! The real issue here is not to let the kids enjoy it. There is the issue of injuries involved with that many people storming the field. Remember "The Who" concert in Cincinnati? Who would have thought something like that might happen? Ask UK radio broadcaster Tom Leach for his opinion about the fans storming the field. His son suffered a broken arm during the horseplay on the field after the Louisville game. Also, I have been told that, as of right now, Mitch Barnhart is going to increase security and not going to allow it to happen anyway.

What's the downside? $5,000 to $50,000 that the university has to pay. I believe they were fined $25,000 the last time they stormed the field. So, I would think the next fine would be more. It's a lame rule, but it is what it is.

Lots of pent up energy. We beat Georgia and stormed the field and beat louisville and stormed the field.I had no problem with it because they were a couple of the biggest upsets in school history (Louisville probably THE biggest). But it's time to start expecting to win and not hoping to win. It takes a great deal of character to handle prosperity and storming the field does not show very much of it after a while.
October 1, 200719 yr I'd say Florida, LSU and Tenn it will happen if you like it or not. They have to win them first though.
October 1, 200719 yr Author Which would cost more- Paying the fine for rushing the field? Or paying overtime for extra security guards to stop people from rushing the field?
October 1, 200719 yr Author Also, how much of it is fans are genuinely excited for the win, or are they just looking for an excuse to get on the field?
