Also, to answer the original question, although I don't consider UofL to be a national power, this does happen to national powers as well. Michigan is a perfect example.

Isn't it ironic that preseason UK fans tried to tear UL down and say they were not a national power.

 

Then, they beat them, and it's a "monumental victory over a national power" that will "change recruiting for UK".

 

Now, UK fans again, trying to make them out to not be one.

 

If they are they are, if they're not, they're not. You can't change like that.

 

Those same people that were saying UL was over rated and not a national power preseason were the same people revelling in the victory over said NON national power.

 

You can't have it both ways...

So can we use some of the same logic being used here to determine that UK isn't a national power in basketball?

 

I was thinking the same thing about Michigan. The logic in the initial post in the thread would eliminate the Big Blue from a national power as well...

 

 

On the other hand, I don't think Louisville is or was a national power. However, a BCS game this year and they probably would've qualified as far as I'm concerned...

I remember before the season even started how ALL the UL fans were saying UL is a national power and this a that...Sorry guys, just to let you know a "national power" does not go from pre-season number 8 to losing to back to back games to teams that are un-ranked...and falling completely off the radar to even maybe not making it to a bowl game...So can we finally end all the this talk about UL being a "national power" and just admit that UL went through ONE good season of football???

No, they're not a national power. The streak has ended too soon for that.

UL has gone from the team playing with a chip on their shoulder trying to prove they belong in the elite class to being a hunted team that everyone is gunning for. I think that some of the players maybe did not realize the type of effort and focus it takes to remain at the level they attained last year.............but I imagine that they are getting the picture now.

I am a UK fan but cheer for UL when they are not playing UK. I find it comical to see fans from BOTH sides find fun in the demise of the other. I for one like it when the STATE of KY looks good whether it is UL or UK.

Personally I don't recall it ever being said but it wouldn't surprise me if it were because every team has irrational fans, some just more than others. The issue now lies with Kragthorpe. With Petrino, there is no doubt in my mind that they were on their way to being a national power with his coaching/recruiting. Now we're on a backslide worse than anything I imagined at the beginning of the season. ONE GOOD SEASON is also a completely ridiculous statement and now you're just stretching to down play UofL's success for no reason. Yes UofL's expectations were high coming into this season but why shouldn't they have been? The coaching change obviously isn't exactly going as planned and NOBODY would have predicted them losing to Syracuse this season so there is no point to pointing out the fans statements because every single one of us has been wrong in out thoughts of what this season would be like.

Not too long ago, Northwestern won a couple of Big 10 titles and cracked the Top 10, but where are they now? Northwestern is not and has never been a traditional national football power and neither have UL or UK.
