UL a National Power?

Featured Replies

I am a UK fan but cheer for UL when they are not playing UK. I find it comical to see fans from BOTH sides find fun in the demise of the other. I for one like it when the STATE of KY looks good whether it is UL or UK.

ding..ding..ding

A voice of reason among the madness.:thumb:

I pull for both programs also. I hope both have successful seasons the rest of the way and end up in a decent bowl game which will in turn be positive press for the state.

Isn't it ironic that preseason UK fans tried to tear UL down and say they were not a national power.

Then, they beat them, and it's a "monumental victory over a national power" that will "change recruiting for UK".

Now, UK fans again, trying to make them out to not be one.

If they are they are, if they're not, they're not. You can't change like that.

Those same people that were saying UL was over rated and not a national power preseason were the same people revelling in the victory over said NON national power.

You can't have it both ways...

I think what most were saying was in reference to U.L. being ranked in the top 10 when U.K. beat them. I don't know.I do know that I did not put that on them efore or after the UK. game. I made reference to the being a top 10 ranked team and that was in the polls but far from a ower or "elite" team.

I will say that imo U.K. beat a better football team (Arkansas) this weekend than they did last week. ;)

Michigan 14

Penn State (10) 9

Michigan has displayed something that the Cards are still searching for...signs of life.

Not too long ago, Northwestern won a couple of Big 10 titles and cracked the Top 10, but where are they now? Northwestern is not and has never been a traditional national football power and neither have UL or UK.

I couldnt of said it any better.....

:thumb: :thumb: Great Post Ace!! U.K. does have one Natoanl Title I believe - under Bear Bryant, they ran him off and ever since U.K. Football has been under the "Curse Of The bear" :scared: :D

I remember before the season even started how ALL the UL fans were saying UL is a national power and this a that...Sorry guys, just to let you know a "national power" does not go from pre-season number 8 to losing to back to back games to teams that are un-ranked...and falling completely off the radar to even maybe not making it to a bowl game...So can we finally end all the this talk about UL being a "national power" and just admit that UL went through ONE good season of football???
Finally we admit it the last ten years have been a hoax. We sure had you guys going for little while, but you knew deep inside that this team was going to prove what we've really been. The greatest part of it all was getting FSU and Miami to play along. When UNC said we could give them thiere worst beating ever we were especially greatful. Of course how could we leave out WVU and what they did for us last year, putting us into a BCS game, that was special and heartfelt. Then to follow along and have Wake Forest let us win just put the icing on the cake. But we would be remis if we didn't say a special word to our fine freinds down in Lexington. We couldn't have done this, or possibly anything of any distiguishable merit without the support of our dear big brothers at UK. Letting us dominate them as badly as any SEC team, is really the cornerstone on how we built our lie. A quick holla to my boys at C-USA for those championships. Thanks, really, Thanks.
   I hope that you are not claiming that U.L. was on the level of a Michigan as far as being an "elite" or "powerhouse" or "Tradition". I like you RP, I really do but that comparison imo is laughable.

Of course not....but per the above criteria I had to throw it out there.

OK... here we go.

The national cred is what the post is about. Ranked as a top 20 program is a National Power.

SWEET. UK is a National Power!

The 'Ville is a National Power, for now at least.

The Cards were not national powers in the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's but they are now and as long as sportswriters across the country continue to vote them up there with the USC, LSU, Texas and Ohio St. they are national powers.

Lets just face it, U of L has been a MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT.

On the flip side....

UK has been a very PLEASANT SURPRISE.....

BOTH ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE OF ONE ANOTHER.....

Just can't get that sour milk out of the Cheerios , uh RRR . :D With the way that some built U.L. up, made their claims to "Elite" and "powerhouse" you have to expect to take a few servings of crow, I know that I certainly have in the past over some things.

The thread title was U.L. a National Power and said nothing about any other school at all so bringing anyone else into it is weak and not the point.

Bottom Line - U.L. never was, is not now, and I doubt if they ever will be a national football power. End Of Story. ;) One BCS bowl does not make anyone a National Power.

The Cards have had a few good football teams lately, thats it.

Thanks for playing though.

Frankly, over the last 3 seasons, fans of both teams (UK and UL) have proven to be horrible winners.

Just more of the same...

Why can't you be happy with the fact that UofL lost their chance this year? Did UofL's streak of beating UK really make you that angry? Because UofL WAS that good? Because you can't blame ANYBODY for thinking this was going to be the year of the title, which would put them on a nice streak of being a top 15 team which in many minds would be the beginings of national power.

As I've said too many times, they lost their chance to become one. The season's not over, but any talk of being a national power is... for now. Hopefully with some seasons under his belt, Coach K can really make something with his own recruits.

1. I am very happy that U.L. has lost their chance this year, "IF" they ever had one to start with. ;)

2. U.L. beating Kentucky during those years was not much of an accomplishment, a lot of teams beat U.K. during that time span. No big accomplishment there.

3. I am not blaming anyone for thinking that this year may be a year of "The Title" for U.L., I actually found it quite comical that anyone thought they might win it in the first place. JMO but they were never a threat for a NC.

4.A streak of top 15 ratings does not impress me as a national power, it does tell me that it is a pretty good football team but not a perinieal National Power. Besides , and I honestly don't know and don't care enough / am not going to look it up but how many years and/or consecutive years has U.L. been in the top 15? Just wondering.

I along with quite afew others were and are having fun with the Cards basically bc a few (not all) of the U.L. faithful on here wer barking "Elite", "National Championship", "Unbeaten season", "Powerhouse" amoung others which none are true.

That is all I was saying, nothing more - nothing less.

My work here is done now. :D :thumb:

Ahhhh yes....The game's been history for over a week...UL fans have posted their crow-eating buffet stories; I sported a despicable Cat holding a dead Cardinal for a couple of days; we've imploded and are watching our team struggle; we're hearing UK fans calling for Coach K's head (go figure); we're watching UL fans morph into the 18% (not pretty)....but still UK fans feel they are owed some unending session to gloat and rub salt in the wounds.

I'm really glad I'm not like that. I'd have a hard time living my life knowing that the misfortune and unhappiness of others is what brings me the most happiness.

I'm truly happy for the UK football team, players and coaches. I am excited for those kids I know who play for UK, and you won't find ANYONE more happy for Coach Brooks than me. But, I believe with all my heart my Cards can turn it around. I'm going to move on, as will they. Enjoy your team's success Cat fans, and may it continue. But be careful how much salt you rub into the wounds, because there will be a day when you will find the treatment reciprocated.

Coming from a UofL fan that is hilarious...The UofL fans have "rubbed salt in the wounds" of UK fans during football season the past couple of years every chance they get....times are changing.
