Willingham never got fair shot and dare I say was any part of it because he was a minority? He has done fairly well at getting U-Dub turned around.

Really? He is 9-18 at the helm. Not exactly anyting to write home about. His winning precentage so far for his first 3 years is worse than than pervious 3 years at the school.

We won't know until he's had a couple of more years, with his own recruits and has had time to train them under his system.

 

Anybody here hear of a guy named Rich Brooks? It's taken him quite a while to turn things around....

jbwill2 a simple answer to your question - Yes.Weis was a very good "O" pro coordinator in the NFL - with New England where just look at what he had to work with.

The one arguement I cannot stand to hear in this thread is about Weiss going to back to back BCS games. Notre Dame has a distinct advantage over any other NCAA program in the fact that they are guarnatted to brign fans and media attention to any game they play, and dare I say this was the ONLY reason why they were allowed to play in a BCS game last year (a game in which they absolutely got the snot kicked out of them). Notre Dame was in my opinion 2 TD's worse than any other BCS team last year, Wake Forest included.

I don't think race had anything to do with Willingham's firing. His biggest problem was that after a hot start he really didn't get much accomplished and his recruiting was not very good. The only difference between him and Weiss is the fact that Notre Dame thought that if they ditched Ty then they would get Urban Meyer who was the hottest thing going at the time. If Meyer had already been hired by Florida I think you might have seen Ty given a little bit more leeway.

One point used to defend weiss not being overrated was that he was 2 for 2 in terms of going to BCS games... I do not think that is a valid point to use as an example absed on wha I wrote in my post.

The jury is still out on Charlie. He has yet to beat a top team and his successful record has been at the expense of middle of the road to fair to flat out bad teams. He's fortunate ND is not the SEC .

That's just bogus. Notre Dame would have taken MUCH less heat by not hiring a minority than they did by hiring Willingham and letting him go that quickly. If it had been about race Willingham would NEVER have been hired. It had everything to do with the fact that Notre Dame thought that they were going to get Urban Meyer.

This question will look dumb next season. This team is so young and so talented, I could see a Nat'l Championship in 2 years, no matter how bad they are right now.
