Owen County Boycott?

Featured Replies

But don't you agree that is the way the coach is going to sell it to the kids. And some parents will take it hook, line and sinker. Because they are looking for a reason, real or imagined, Little Johnny is getting thumped by cardigan wearing Stuart.

I still think classification should be more on the lines of size and rural/urban.

Unfortunately...

Is it my imagination or is most of the schools boycotting rural schools?

Someone should point out that this might be more of a rural/urban issue than public/private.:sssh: ;)

Tell that to Mr. Sexton.

Most of the kids that I know that are involved in sports understand the differences in the Privates vs. Publics and the difference in the large vs. small. I think that the kids know who they can compete with and who they cannot.

I have overheard these discussions and usually the kids say "well...Mary and Sue are as good as anyone on the team but they have a whole bench of Mary and Sues." They are smart and they understand.

However, that does not diminsh the thrill of going to the All A and competing against like schools for championships, or being in a class of football that you can be competitive in.

Completely and totally agree. To add to that, there hasn't been a bigger win in Ludlow sports history, according to some, than when the baseball team knocked CovCath out of the district tournament when they were a HEAVY favorite...even the football state title...

I couldn't be that naive to my kids either...

I think there is a big difference in not playing schools who have been found guilty of cheating vs. not playing private schools. I would never not schedule a school on the basis of being private. Being a known and convicted cheater is a different matter. Why play schools who don't follow the same rules that you do? I think that is a much larger issue than public and private.

I thought he spoke for the majority...:D

Unless the current situation is addressed, there is going to be alot more boycotting the private schools than just Owen County. Right or wrong, wait and see. I started hearing alot about it when the email came out from Sears and the talk has gotten much stronger lately.

I agree. I hadn't heard a lot of talk on the private/public issue on the public side for awhile. But after the email, it has picked up the conversations on it. Not as much as before Prop 20 but definitely picked back up.

October and the delegate assembly should be interesting.

It's almost like when you haven't seen or heard the kids in a while. You better go check up on them because they are probably doing something that they shouldn't be doing.

Owen County boycotting private schools is like me saying I'm boycotting Rolls-Royce, Playboy Bunnies, running for President, playing center field for the Yankees, riding on the Space shuttle, eating a $100 steak, and out-driving Tiger Woods. It all carries about the same weight.

Is the goal simply to make a point? What is the expected result? To force the privates to separate? At some point, until there is separation, won't games have to be played to establish playoff teams etc? In other words, if separation doesn't occur, what will this accomplish. Assume every public avoids playing privates across the board, is the assumption that the legislature will then take that as a mandate and go straight to separation?

I guess I'm just thinking about the immediate affect as the long term result is probably obvious ... would someone get forfeited wins or someone be penalized for not playing the required schedule for their respective district / region etc?

Big question...where is the proof that Owen is consciously NOT scheduling private schools? I am not doubting it, I just like evidence before I make a decision (type D personality :D).
