8th Region

Featured Replies

I will agree that not playing this summer definately didn't help him. Actually, I have seen both play and do think they both have improved. I wouldn't be surprised to see all three start this year, especially early on while Layne is out with an injury. Probably Ponzer at the 1, Barnes 2, and Slavey 3.

I think the offense will be more up tempo this year with the shooters on the wings and the overall team speed. Add that to a good schedule and it should be fun to watch.

I hope I can get a 1st shift job so I can be present for the upcoming season, I like the uptempo part of things.

IMO-Trent Maddox will be the best player in the region. He played last year in the shadow of Perkins and Edmonson, manytimes to the teams detriment. It isnt just his production its also the way he moves without the ball. Walton and Simon dont have an answer defensively.

I've seen this kid play since he was little and any of the three guards from SK (Barnes, Ponzer or Slavey) will have no problem guarding him. I guess we will see when SK comes to Gallatin.

And when Maddox gets on the post im sure they can all guard him since he's only 6'4".

Did he grow over the summer? Because in the region tournament he was only about 6'1" or 6'2" at best.

I saw Trent at a football game earlier this year. It does look like he has had a growth spurt since basketball last year. 6'4" is accurate.

The 8th is a very weak region!! Pretty thin in comparison to the regions surrounding it. But hands down the team that over achieves is Gallatin. Coach Jones does a wonderful job with those young men and they play HARD! On another note it is funny that when Simon joined this region they thought they were going to walk!! HASN'T HAPPENED! So i would have to say that Simon is the most under achieving team... Oh wait there's Grant County!! 1,100 some students and can't beat any one above 2A!! As crazy as that place is about basketball you would think they could put together some wins. In my opinion Grant is TOO SOFT year in and year out! Have those kids ever seen a weightroom? Anyway this region is irrelevant because there is little to no talent.

Thanks for being so positive in your 3rd post ever!!! Really classy.:irked: Maybe the 8th isn't as good as some of the other regions, but since the caliber of play is fairly even amongst the member schools down here in the 8th, we think it is pretty darn exciting basketball. That is why this weak region's thread has been open for nearly two months, and working on 3 full pages. So IMO, you can get stepping...

Just because its evenly mediocre it's exciting? Come on give me a break. Also if you read back towards the beginning of this thread there is an agreement that SK, Oldham, and Shelby are up top and everyone else is on the outside looking in, so how is that "fairly even"? Also you didn't even try to convince me that i was wrong! At least come back with so ammunition. :walk: Now i will step!

The 8th is clearly not the best overall region in the state but its also far from the worst. Last years 8th region runner up, Simon Kenton, beat 9th region champ and eventual final four team Holmes. I don't know what region you really would like to compare the 8th to but why come in and say how the region isn't any good, just keep it to yourself.

Wow..I think it is exciting...7 of the 16 teams are single A schools and we love our basketball as well as any other region. The kids work hard and so do the Coaches. What region are you from?

Most of the larger Schools in the region have an advantage but it is great to see a little School have a good year also. I am sorry you do not understand how we all love basketball whether we are on the top or the bottom of the State Rankings.

Would love to talk about your area also, maybe start a thread on that region.

Wow matic your real good at making friends. Have the guts to tell us your region and I guess we will have to give you the dirt on it.:fight:

There are weaker regions for sure. The rest of your post speaks volumes!

I will agree that Gallatin will probably be the favorite in the 8th for the All A.

As for Walton....they will be #2 or 3 in their district again this year much like the last few years. Coach Bennett just hasn't had that much to work with over the past 3-4 years.

When it comes to Walton they usually always get to be second, but that is the way it goes when you have Scott Co. in your district for years. Then they follow that up with a Simon Kenton team that was one of the best they have had in years. Even with that Walton went to regionals last year and lost to the eventual winners in a close game in which they did not have there best player.
