Someone in this thread stated that Russell is still Russell. Are they really? I don't see how a relatively small school can keep producing talent that goes to back to back championship game. Maybe they are still Russell but knowing the talent they have lost the last couple of years and also seeing their jv/fr talent the last few years, quite frankly I don't see them being the Russell of the last two seasons. Now grant it they will be good and they will compete but to just throw it out there and say "Russell is Russell"...I don't agree just yet. They did beat Greenup rather easily but from what I hear so did East Carter and we saw what East did offensively verses Bath County and Boyd County...7 points in two games. Let's see how the Devils do verses Boyd before we put them in Louisville again.

When you here people say Russell is Russell it's not saying they are going to Louisville. In most cases they are saying they are very well coached and work good as a team. In the last 8 years Russell has only produced 1 D-1 player and that being Clark who went to Murry state. So they are not blessed with talent that the Louisville teams have. They just have good coaching and work good together. I have not seen one post on here by a Russell fan that has said in anyway that Russell will be going to Louisville.

East has only had one game against Boyd Co. Last friday was the first week of regular season games. I will assume the Bath Co was a scrimmage.

Russell has lost alot of talent over the last two years. The good thing though is there is more coming up. Russell has a very good feeder program in its JFL. Kids grow up playing football and dreaming of the day when they can play for the high school. That is how a small school can keep producing talent. That is why Russell is still Russell.

By the way. I believe the combined record of Russell's JV and Freshman teams last year was 14-2. Not that it means anything at the varsity level, but thats not bad either.

I think Russell is the clear favorite. But, you have to worry about Boyd Co's ability to pull off the big upset in recent years. They beat Bell Co. in the playoffs of 2003 and Russell's state champ team in 2005 - to mention just two. So, I expect Russell to win - but I wouldn't be shocked to see a BC upset.

It should be a good game. Good luck to both sides and may the best team win.

I hear what your saying, and I agree, except for the fact that BC "upset" Russell 2 years ago. At that time was it an upset? It turned out to be Russell's only loss but I believe it was only the 3rd game of the season and it was at BC. After the season was over, one could say that BC upset Russel, but not at the time. JMO

OK, point well taken. I had the benefit of “hind-sight” when I wrote my last post. :D

I said "Russell is Russell" because they are. They are a solid, well coached, winning football team year in and out. I didn't mean it in the sense that they go to the Pizza Box every year. I meant in the sense that here in NE Ky Russell is Russell and they have been a top 5 program in this part the state for a number of years. Russell is also Russell because they play 4 quarters, they hit hard, they don't lose very often, and they always bring the Wing T.

So yeah Russell is Russell which means year in and year out they are one of the best teams in this area and every few years one of the best in the state for their class.

I'll take Russell 42-7.

Apparently someone needed some help. They apparently don't watch a lot of ESPN because "Team A is Team A" is an often used sports cliche'. Dennis Greene eloquently stated such a cliche's about the Bears last year:

The Bears were who we thought they were and we let 'em off the hook!

;)
