As of right now, it is forcasted to be 84 degrees and mild.

But I forecast a devil of a night with tempers flaring up, and a cool breeze,of victory, blowing for the north-west.

....

No doubt Russell is Russell, but Boyd County is Boyd County, Ironton is Ironton, West Carter is West Carter, etc. etc. That is straight from the department of redundancy department!

The thing I was trying to say is that if area teams just settle for the idea that Russell is Russell and that their own team is still just their own team then how is anyone going to ever elevate themselves to beat those teams that are always on the pedastal. Yes Russell is still Russell, ie well coached, hard nosed kids, lots of numbers, but I don't know if they are the same Russell that most of the area teams have been trucked by the last two years, they may be but maybe not. Maybe there is a team on their schedule that will look not at the jersey and say Russell is Russell but look at the team and think this is the year we beat these guys.

Boyd County did just that a couple of years ago...doing it again is not out of the question.

Now that all of my philosophizing is over I say Russell by 18. (maybe we will find out that Russell is indeed still Russell.)

It's just a catch phrase. Many people now say, "team 'A' is team 'A'", and many people say, "we don't re-build, we re-load". It's not just Russell, many fans say the two above things on BGP, and I have even noticed it is sport sections of papers in the state. I don't think it affects how other teams play against those teams. Just a new phrase people use.

Bottom line is that Russell can loose on any given Friday. We all are very well aware of that fact. Making it to the state final allows Russell to have credibility in the eyes of many. They have earned respect. Then there are a few who respect no one.

Well stated. Also Russell, by performing well on a state level, has given publicity to North-Eastern Kentucky football. When any team from this region wins the Region, the State, ranks in the state top 10, has players on the All-State list, or sends players to college to play football it es good publicity for the region as well as helps get other players noticed and awarded college scholarships.

I agree with what you are saying but name me a Russell player that has really been a sucessful college/pro player?

I wasn't really talking about Russell, I was talking about how a successful team in the region, gives good publicity to our region.

I'm just happy for a player to get a scholarship to play football from this area. I think Jeremy Sheffey from Boyd Co. has done really well at WVU and is now getting a shot in the NFL. Aaron Pettrey from Raceland is doing well at Ohio St, and will have a shot in the NFL. Casey Clark for Russell, I believe will have a good four years at Murray State. Josh Gross from Russell hopefully will do good at Georgtown, but he has had some injuries thus far. Nathan McPeek from Russell had a good college career at Marshall University and was on the watch list for the Outland Award, he never missed a start in four years, and made an unsuccessful bid in the NFL, I believe he could have made it but the back injury cut his career very short. Arliss Beech from Ashland played at UK and is now in the NFL, fighting for a position.

I also know many local players who have received D1AA, D2, D3, and NAIA scholarships and chances to play in college.

Several former Lawrence Co players played college football and are now successful coaches. Garrod Parker who played at UK, then coached two years at Raceland and is now a graduate assistant at UK, Donte Wright, I can't remember which college he went to but is now a graduate assistant at UK. Eddie Micheals, is now a coach as well.

My point is that many players from this area over the last 10 years have received college attention. That was not the case say 20 years ago, it was much harder to receive a college scholarship. And the more success that area teams have, and the more quality players that area teams send to college, will open doors for players today as well as in the future.

Donte Wright went to Miami of Ohio.

Josh Gross is expected to be an important part of the Georgetown offense this year. From what I hear the injuries are healed up and he is ready to go.

Josh Wills LB and Dan Meko K are at Georgetown as well.

Also from Russell going back a ways. John Groves went to Alabama and then transferred to UK. TJ Maynard also played at UK.

OK, point well taken. I had the benefit of “hind-sight” when I wrote my last post. :D

I wish I had that hind sight all the time:thumb:

Donte Wright went to Miami of Ohio.

Wright played for Lawrence Co. However, here are some of the ones I can think of recently:

Josh Wills

Derek Timberlake

Ethan Gullett

Drew Mell

Kasey Clark

Josh Gross

Nathan McPeek
