Losing Buck is Dave Brossart's worst nightmare. His running makes the passing game better.

 

Its going to take a while before a new qb and 3 new receivers get on the same page and for Dave and the staff to figure out what they can do and what they can't.

He's lookin at 5-8 weeks. Although losing a back of that caliber would be a huge blow to any team in the state, the back up combination of Will Deters and Tyler Lutz is as solid a backup as anyone could have.

4/16 would be incorrect. Heck, they probably completed at least 4 screens. JW had a nice touch on his deep balls (1 for a TD - 1 could have been a TD). Arm strength on the slant pass was very good . He and the receiver need to get on the same page. He struggled on the rollout to his right. He missed some short ones he should have completed. He knows he screwed up a few times and Coach B knows he screwed up. That's what happens at the qb position when you have the ball in your hands every snap.

 

However, he showed maturity. He threw the pick on the last play of the first drive but came right back and didn't let it bother him. He's a calming influence. Heck, when he threw the long TD, he simply ran down, got everyone in the huddle for the PAT and ran the next play.

 

He's not tall. He's not fast. He doesn't have the strongest arm. However, he's not afraid. He will take a hit and get back up in the huddle.

 

Sometimes leadership skills can be the difference between being #1 and #2 when all other attributes are close.

 

The TD pass should have easily been intercepted, but the receiver went and got the ball while the db totally mistimed his jump at a ball that he had inside position to grab. If the DB would have had a decent attempt at the ball, the receiver could have only broken up the interception with an offensive interference. Good job by the receiver.

 

With Buck out, I can't see this team winning more than two games all year. The defense did look good and even contributed a TD on an interception.

Roger Bacon was a good opponent, lost to Elder 14-7 in last weeks scrimmage. The offense appeared to run even better after Buckley was out. A few more completions and it would have been 40-0.

Couldnt agree more. BTW covcath is a very reliable source very close and active in the cov cath community.

Here's the deal: Right now Wehry is the best option for qb unless you decide to go with a strictly running qb and bring Furnish over. From what I've seen , he's the best passing option they have right now. I do not base that on TDs, completions, etc because Ryle was a better defense than Bacon. I'm simply basing it off of what I see when the ball is thrown. John threw some ducks yesterday but he also threw some nice deep balls and had some real zip on his slants. I didn't see either the week before.

 

I'd guess its not locked in stone that John is the man for the entire season so every game is a test. If he fails, I have zero doubt that someone else gets a shot to move this team and rightly so. I don't care who the QB is. If they decide that the 6'7 offensive tackle is the best qb, I'll be rooting for him.

One more thing: Isler may be a heckuva qb and was simply rusty against Ryle. You wonder how much of an impact summer baseball had on his ability to get his arm in football shape after a long, long layoff.

Pretty brash statement since none of the three QBs last week had near the time yesterdays QB had. The line gave him time to pass. Have heard from reliable source CCH was 7 for 24 in the passing department yesterday. CSHS81 sounds to me like you are a little close to this. I also want them to have a successful season and support whomever the right boy for the job is.
