Featured Replies

Correction. Covath 21 RB 0. Roger Bacon never scored when the teams went live situation. Also heard Buckley will be back for the Highlands game.

Pretty brash statement since none of the three QBs last week had near the time yesterdays QB had. The line gave him time to pass. Have heard from reliable source CCH was 7 for 24 in the passing department yesterday. CSHS81 sounds to me like you are a little close to this. I also want them to have a successful season and support whomever the right boy for the job is.

Full disclusure: I've known John since he was a first-grader and he's one of my favorites.

Full disclosure2: I've heard (and seen) nothing but good things about Zach Isler as a kid/young man. I love watching him play basketball because he plays my kind of ball and he'd be on any team I put together. He seems about as pleasant a young man as there is and is obviously a talented kid.

With that said (and disclosed) all I can go on is what I see. From a pure passing standpoint (since neither John nor the others are runners) all I can say is that in the first two scrimmages, John threw the better ball. As I previously stated, I'm not looking at completions, TDs, yards thrown for, etc. All I'm talking about is the pass itself. I saw no zip on passes in the first scrimmage. I saw no soft touch when needed.

I don't see practices so all I can go by is what I have seen in 2 scrimmages. I don't see any of these statements as "brash."

I'd guess its not locked in stone that John is the man for the entire season so every game is a test. If he fails, I have zero doubt that someone else gets a shot to move this team and rightly so. I don't care who the QB is. If they decide that the 6'7 offensive tackle is the best qb, I'll be rooting for him.

We completely agree.

Good to hear.

Furnish seems to have a real nose for the ball on defense. He reacted quickly and showed great closing speed when the ball was in the air.

Great athlete. Strong kid.

Couldn't agree more, he looked great. It's good to have him as a safety with his experience and speed. What I must be missing is how he isnt involved in the hunt for Qb any longer? As far as I can see this is still a four horse race, and three of the four did not get the same opportunity based on the scrimmage format.

If Dave Brossart wants to platoon, I don't think Furnish is an option at qb in his mind other than an emergency situation or a special formation/once a game type thing.

Well I heard From Coach Brossart that Brent Buckley will be out for most likely 6 to 8 weeks which means he will be ready to go for the playoffs

What you did see was Isler run 10 plays maximum against Ryle. The offensive line played very poorly against a strong Ryle defense. None of the 3 qbs had a chance to do anything positive [ Weary was not one of the 3 qbs].

Good job by Brossart to correct the problems with the offensive line. They played much better. With a much longer srimmage against Roger Bacon, it would have been nice to see all of the qb canidates get some reps.

I agree. That is definately the route I would have gone with the situation. The offensive line played 10 times better against Roger Bacon than it did against Ryle and it would have made sense to see all the candidates in that situation. I don't really want to say who I think should get the starting job because it's not my place too, but I will say I think its weird that Wehry took every snap against RB after not getting any against Ryle. I believe the other candidates deserved another scrimmage to show what they could do as well.

Not knowing who is going to be the starting QB with less than a week before the first game, is going to be almost as tough as losing Buckley for a while. Last year Josh Bleser knew no matter what happened he was the starting QB, so he wasn't under any pressure to prove to the team or the coach, that he was the man. John, ICE, and Furnish all have the weight of the world on there shoulders, and feel that they most do something outstanding during a game to win the position. Thus on the one INT that John threw early in the game near the CovCath end zone that was intercepted, I truly believe if he didn't feel he had to do something outstanding to win the position, he never would have thrown that ball. Being the starting QB, and knowing you are the starting QB no matter what happens, makes for better decisions, and thus better results. Coach Brossart needs to make a decision soon......and I like cshs81 will support and root on whomever he decide on....

What i saw in the Ryle game,I woudn't want my son being the quarterback. With the schedule they have I hope the QB's parents carry good insurance,

What you did see was Isler run 10 plays maximum against Ryle. The offensive line played very poorly against a strong Ryle defense.

No argument there. As I stated in that thread, it was a mistake to not do 10 and 10 so that the new guys could get some snaps.

Secondly, I'm not the coach so my opinion is ONLY based on what I've seen in 2 scrimmages. I could be 100% incorrect. All I know is what I saw.

Lastly, I don't think for a second that a)Dave Brossart made any decision SOLELY on the two scrimmages since he sees every qb every day nor b)the qb situation is 100% settled.

Maybe the decision was made during last week's practices to start wehry, since wehry took all the snaps vs. RB. All good points above, and all the QBs have different talents, but the team seemed to be "lead" down the field on Friday - something that did not occur against the Ryle football team. This position should have been won a long time ago, not on Friday. It looks like it was time to move on and let the offense know who their man was.
