I honestly don't see a problem at all, with charging at a scrimmage. We are going to watch a HS competition, evaluate talent and be entertained.

I'm for a HS generating revenue.

Every program could use money and what is $3 or even $5 to support your team.

Thank God we have other ways of supporting our team rather than gouge the already over-taxed, underpaid parents that are putting the bill and are the biggest supporters during the regular season. A scrimmage game is merely practice, counts for nothing except giving your team reps. We do reps everyday. The next thing I hear will probably be that someone should start charging for practice. We fed and watered not only our Kids after our scrimmage, but Russell County players and Staff. Come on now, if we and the majority of teams do not charge, then charging constitutes GOUGING,,,:p

Caldwell County is not charging for its scrimmage Thursday against Henderson County.

I think charging for a scrimmage, unless you're raising money for charity or another good cause, is bush league.

What's next? A season pass so we can watch the teams practice? Should I fork over $5 the next time I ask a coach how their team is looking?

A lot of people already give a lot of money to their local schools. I see no reason to try to squeeze out every red cent. Make your money at the concession stand if you have to.

Charging for every little thing is just going to turn more and more people away from high school sports. We need to be doing everything possible to encourage more people to attend.

I can tell you all right now it won't affect the Trinity crowd going to support the Rocks one bit.

.. Gouge the heck out of your fans, thats the way to do it. Like you all need the money...

If little Class 2A Caldwell County can hold a scrimmage, feed both teams and not charge anybody to get in, exactly why do schools like Trinity and Marshall County need to charge?

I'm pretty sure it will cost you $3 this Friday at Johnson Central. I guess certain Board members need the extra money to buy tailgate supplies and fireworks. They should use the money to shape up that baseball field.

Does anyone know if the gate profits from the scrimmage(practice) is shared with the visiting team, like the Bowls?...

St. X. has never charged for scrimmage games and has no plans to do so.

I THINK at Campbell County last weekend it was $1 or a can good (for charity) for admission.

I paid $4 at Grant County last weekend...

If you don't like the charges, you have an option. Go back home. Otherwise, most schools have to acknowledge that local boards no longer subsidize the costs of athletics at all, and charging at every available opportunity is needed. And yes, it is needed. Costs of uniforms, officials, protective gear, maintenance of facilities, those are not free and normally, not paid by local boards. So you are encouraged to exercise your freedom of choice whenever you wish and simply turn around and leave.

Well said. No sport is more expensive than football. The money goes toward the equipment and items needed for the kids to play, whether it be uniforms, shoulder pads or paint to line the field. $3 is not going to break people.
