Is admission to High School Football Scrimmages Free?

If you don't like the charges, you have an option. Go back home. Otherwise, most schools have to acknowledge that local boards no longer subsidize the costs of athletics at all, and charging at every available opportunity is needed. And yes, it is needed. Costs of uniforms, officials, protective gear, maintenance of facilities, those are not free and normally, not paid by local boards. So you are encouraged to exercise your freedom of choice whenever you wish and simply turn around and leave.
...We are a 5-A school that incurr the same costs that you do. We do not feel it necessary to GOUGE at evert oppunity that you are saying. It appears to me that some of you have become a little capitalistic. If you must charge for practice games then you should rethink your program financing. I can certainly afford the $3.00-$5.00 but my point is " have some programs let their fund raising and spending get out of hand?" We have a Booster Club that I guess is second to none. That is why we do not have to gouge like the oil companies. I have a novel idea; those of you that think it is okay to take advantage should set up a gate and charge each and every parent to attend practice. Better yet, you could charge Parents for picking up their Kids...

.. Gouge the heck out of your fans, thats the way to do it. Like you all need the money...

Do you think that $3 gouges us....better yet do WE think it? No....it is well worth the money for the entertainment we receive.

Heck we play more games a year than most...we PAY more than most, and we will HAPPILY continue to do so....that's the cost of having Kentucky's #1 football powerhouse.

Charging an admission to a scrimmage game is a choice. Just like a parent sending their kid to a public or private school, its a choice. There is no right or wrong is this choice. Scrimmage games incurr almost the same cost as a season game (lights turned on, referrees, clean up crews, etc etc). Three dollars shouldn't break someone, but you can choose to turn around. If you are a true supporter of the program, you'll pay the cost.

.. Are you saying that you are #1 because of your money? We down here in Southern Ky. play for the FUN of it...:jump:

How is it gouging if a fan chooses to pay the fee? Gouging, IMO, would be charging an exhorbitant fee. But, $3-$5 is reasonable.

My next question is this: If your school/program doesn't charge, why does this even affect you? What difference does it make to you that another school does charge.

And for the record, Trinity isn't "rich". Like all schools, we look for ways to make money through our programs, and through economizing. Our parents, alumni and other fans do a lot for our program, but there's always more need than resource.

If you don't want to pay the fee, don't go to the scrimmage. It's really nothing to be hostile about, though.

No hostility intended, merely another point of view...I suppose that there is more pressure to be #1. IMO we have just as much fun as you big powerhouses at a heck of lessor cost. Thats right we don't charge our parents and fans for practice, then again we do not have the overhead...

We don't charge for practice either.

I don't think anyone, is equating charging for scrimmage games, to being #1....

We do not charge our parents to watch practice, but we do charge for scrimmages, because as previously stated it costs the school just as much to put on a scrimage as it does to play a game.

... Is scrimmage not a practice?...

Charge admission. It's a lot easier than having a car wash, selling candy, soliciting donations, selling program ads, raffle tickets, bingo, auctions .......

... Is scrimmage not a practice?...

It is, but referees show up for scrimmage. I don't see any referees at a practice.
