I just fail to see how Kragthorpe should get the benefit of the doubt but Gillispie doesn't. Please explain.

1. Kragthorpe has an already proven, Top 10 team. Gillispie doesn't.

2. All we hear about is how tough the SEC is in basketball (and football) and how weak the BEast is. Using that logic, shouldn't Kragthorpe have more success?

3. The team that Kragthorpe inherited has done nothing but improve the past three years. By reading this board at ALL the past two basketball seasons, you'd be able to tell that the majority of the UK Basketball fanbase thinks UK has been doing just the opposite.

And your reasoning for that opinion is? Lack of recruiting, lack of game coaching, bad luck or what. Gillispie has turned around the recruiting, he beat Pitino (who you picked to return to the Final Four) with a lesser team in Kentucky so I don't think game coaching should be in question. I'm just curious for the reason for your assessment.

Honestly? No inside game. Yes, you acquired PPat, which was an awesome pick-up for the Cats, but he will not single-handedly lead the Cats to the promise land. If Randolph Morris couldn't, Patrick Patterson won't either. Hopefully some of the big men that BCG has on the radar can come in and put in some significant time and help, but until UK establishes a solid inside game, I just don't see them making it that far. JMO.

And as far as the coaching goes. Yeah, BCG beat Pitino, ONCE, with arguably one of the Top 3 guards in the country leading his squad. Forgive me if Im not sold that BCG can consistently out coach Pitino just yet.

^ Huge success in now making it to the sweet 16 twice come on OR.

That (sweet 16) was a big sucsess for the schools that BCG was at. They had been no where before he got there.

Has everyone forgotten that he has only been a head coach for 5 years? It's not like you can take traditionally atrocious basketball programs to the final four when they had never previuosly sniffed the tournament. UTEP and Texas A&M were merely stopping points on a much grander scheme for BCG. Pitino didn't go to his first final four until his 7th season, and his second one came at one of the most tradition rich schools of all time. Tubbs was a head coach for, wait for it, 7 years before sniffing the final four and winning his NC. I guess what I'm saying is give the guy some time. like two more years until his 7th season :sssh:

:thumb: That is what I was meaning by my statements on the "huge" sucsess at UTEP and Texas A&M.

For the sake of this message board, I hope they do. But they won't, IMO.

Yeah and just how much are you asking for that ocean front property in Arizona??

Shocker.

That's my feelings as well. :thumb:

Woooow now killer. Better coach I wouldn't say that. Better recruiter yes no question.
Signing alot of guys doesn't make you a better recruiter. You have no idea if these guys from 09 and 10 are any good at all.

Also, to say that Gillespie is a better recruiter than Sampson and Pitino??? Come on....take the Blue Blockers off for just a minute.

UK was owning UL and IU with Tubby. Do you think it will get easier for them with BCG??? And I have a real good idea how good the guys from 09 and 10 are...

Wasn't last year Sampson's first at IU.....a little early to say they were dominating the current regime...

You were beating up on Mike Davis' IU teams, we don't even claim them. My high school could have put up a game on those guys.

There's a new sherrif in town.......

I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment. Besides, I don't see why anyone needs to justify their opinion on this thread.

It's obvious that the people, like me, who think UK will make a final four within the next 5 years think Billy G is going to be a great fit at UK. And there is justification for that, IMO, when you look at UK's history and tradition, Gillispie's brief, but impressive, track record at UTEP and Texas A & M, his work ethic, and the improved recruiting he has shown.

The people who don't think they will are obviously taking a more cautious wait and see approach, which is also justified, IMO. They want to see more from Gillispie than 5 years...they want to see how he handles the spotlight of UK basketball...and maybe they want to see if he can consistently recruit like he has in his brief tenure, or if he just got lucky with Legion and Patterson and rode the wave of excitement with the new hire.

Both sides are fair. I just take the optimistic side. :thumb:
