One thing you continue to dodge is that UK just beat three teams you place above them...2 badly...and things are getting better by the minute...

 

UT- split last two years, and the UK blowout occurred without Lofton. Has everyone returning from a team that should have outted eventually runner-up tOSU, and has a couple great recruiting classes coming in.

 

UL- Yeah UK won the past couple seasons, but UofL has it's most talented team in a while, and their recruiting is as strong as it's ever been IMO.

 

IU- New coach who actually knows how to coach the talent he brings in, and is a great recruiter to boot. Just brought in arguably the best frosh. in the country. Recruiting is starting to thrive once again.

 

UK- In the middle of the largest FF drought in school history, lost the team's best player. Hires new coach who uses momentum from hiring to sign a very good class, however has now struck out on 3-4 of his top big man recruits.

Did I call you a homer in my post? I don't mix words, as you know, so if I didn't say you were being a homer than I don't think you are. I also think it is 100% unfair to assume that all UK fans that disagree with your personal stance are: a) wrong, b) pessimists, or c) not real UK fans.

Just like things are getting better at those schools at a rapid rate as well. The young UL team that UK played was not the team that finished the season and you know that. Gordon is IMO the best player in the 07 class and DJ White is a stud down low. Clearly better. Add Tyler Smith to a young UT team with an All American senior and guess what? They clearly get better as well. That's what you are ignoring. I don't feel UK will improve as much as any of the three this season, although I do see them as not far behind. From there it's anyone's guess. You know that. Even if you are a homer...

What you are saying is ON PAPER these teams are now ahead of UK, I'm saying ON THE COURT UK beat them...You can analyze potential wins all you want...

They're 2-2 ON THE COURT against UT over the past 2 seasons.

 

They're 1-1 ON THE COURT against IU over the past 2 seasons, getting humiliated in their defeat.

 

UofL, they've had the advantage on the past 3 years, although those games were all tight contests.

I guess it's a good thing for you that he went so far out on a limb over the Gillispie hire that he has no choice but to agree with you...

I'm going to surprise even myself and say yes... I believe Gillispie has an understanding of how short the leash is going to get if he doesn't perform immediately, knowing that a good deal of UK fans will not be pleased with another 5 year wait (at least) for a final four. UK will either make the final four within the next 5 years, or come EXTREMELY close. I'm far from a homer, but I think that's a pretty decent window and I believe he will meet the expectations based on what is on the line.

^I would say the people who are voting no are being more cautious in their predictions. As I posted earlier, I think you can justify choosing either...if you say yes, you're looking at what Billy G has accomplished recruiting-wise in a short time, his past performance, and UK's tradition...if you say no, you're looking at where UK is at right now, you're wondering how Gillispie will fare on the biggest stage, and you're wondering if his recruiting success will stick, or if he got lucky and had PP and Legion land in his lap...to me, either is justified.

 

Naturally, UK fans are more likely to take the optimistic approach, and non-UK fans the opposite view. So, in that sense, you're right. It's not surprising. I just disagree in that you insinuate they say no only because they aren't UK fans. They're fully justified in saying no, IMO, just like I am in saying yes.

In fact they only hit 24k 7 times last year. Out of 19 home games. So, roughly, only a third of the time.
