I've seen way to many patients, both adult and children come into the ER with 4 wheeler accidents. I won't let me kids on one ever. I don't care how old they are, or how fast it will go.

Not a chance.

I guess I'll be the outsider here and say yes I'd get my kid one but no it wouldn't be that powerful(but I say that now not being a parent). I've had my fair share of scares but never had a serious accident(needing a trip to the ER). The way I see it is it's just like a car everytime you ride it's a risk but you have to have respect for the vehicle and know what you can and cannot do. I know some people that have been seriously injured and I myself never ride without a helmet.

Let me guess, you wouldn't let your sixteen year-old drive a car that will do well over a hundred either right?...Four wheelers are like anything else that you drive you have to respect it and your surroundings......Motorcycles,Jet skies,Boats,ATV's,Cars and any other type of motorized vehicles.....I bet the nurse has seen more vehicle accident victims than ATV accident victims...

I guess my parents suck, I got my first 4-wheeler when I was 8, it was a little Honda 70, I drove that till I was 11 then I got a Yamaha Timberwolf which was a 225 and kept it till I was 23. I can only recall 2 wrecks in 15 years of riding, both occurred while playing in the mud and hanging the tire in a rut and flipping it, i was OK on both. I would have no problem with my kid having a 4 wheeler as long I could do what my parent did, adjust the throttle where I couldnt open it up all the way and they wore a helmet,parents today are scared of life.

I think just the opposite, like HHSDad said....about grieving.

 

Some riders are responsible and will never have accidents, but riding without proper gear, helmets and no regard for safety....will eventually result in an accident.

I have personally rode ATV's and dirt bikes since I was around 7 years old. I have had my share of wrecks, although most have just removed skin (thank god no broken bones) Of the wrecks that I have been involved in most were brought on by myself. Attempting to climb steep hills, doing doughnuts, and riding wheelies. This was not the atv's fault it was mine. Atvs can be safe but they must be rode responsible, In hindsight I realize this. Therefore if I have a kid they will be able to ride these but I will stress the importance of not being stupid on them.

Well I mean I had a 300cc fourwheeler at 12 and now have a trx 450 fourwheeler and i'm only 18 and I love them, I'm glad I was given the chance to learn early... I mean you can govern them down for unexperienced riders and younger kids...

You don't think that the additional 4 years of age (and hopefully maturity) makes a difference?
