Dirt-bikes are also dangerous to 14 year olds!!!

Trust me I know.

My youngest got a dirt bike when he was 5, got a bigger one when he was 12, then almost died 5/6/07.

Yes it was carelessness on his part, but he was an expierenced rider.

No I will not get him another one even if he wanted.

My children always had dirt bikes and 4-wheelers, but not racers. But their dad rode with them, most of the time.

I guess my parents suck, I got my first 4-wheeler when I was 8, it was a little Honda 70, I drove that till I was 11 then I got a Yamaha Timberwolf which was a 225 and kept it till I was 23. I can only recall 2 wrecks in 15 years of riding, both occurred while playing in the mud and hanging the tire in a rut and flipping it, i was OK on both. I would have no problem with my kid having a 4 wheeler as long I could do what my parent did, adjust the throttle where I couldnt open it up all the way and they wore a helmet,parents today are scared of life.

That wasn't the question in the first post. I have let my kids ride ATVs. But they wore a helmet, and the ATV didn't do 60mph. You must of had some pretty mean parents if they adjusted the throttle so you couldn't open it all the way up.

I have a 9 yr old son and he has been on 4 wheelers since he was 1 yr old with either myself or my father in law. He has now been riding them by hisself for the last 3 yrs. He has been riding a yamaha 400 this year.This particular 4 wheeler is registered to go around 55 to 60 mph. He has boundries and rules he has to follow. He is only allowed to go 10 mph and stay in the yard or off the road if out at the farm. ATV's are only as dangerous as the person riding them. They have to be respected for their power and speed or you will get hurt. I have been in the EMS field for 15 yrs and I have picked up many ATV accidents. I would venture to say about 95% of those are due to someone either being stupid or to comfortable saying I won't get hurt. I also truly believe that if taught rules and proper riding techniques 4 wheeler are a fun and enjoyable hobby.
