July 31, 200719 yr I was just thinking and I heard Andy and Barney on the Andy Griffith Show call int pop on the show last night. So, if they refer to it in that way in Mayberry then it must be right.
July 31, 200719 yr Lewis Black had a great joke about going to a restaurant and asking for a Coke and they tell him they only serve Pepsi.I usually just ask for a Coke. The waiter will then either say, "Is Pepsi okay?" or will say nothing and bring me whichever they have.
July 31, 200719 yr Author For Kentuckians maybe near the KY/Ohio border it is referred to as pop, but I believe the majority in Kentucky refer to it as "Coke." The map reflects that. I say Coke as well and I think most in South Cent KY does as well.
July 31, 200719 yr I usually just ask for a Coke. The waiter will then either say, "Is Pepsi okay?" or will say nothing and bring me whichever they have. I do the same thing, I do notice the difference in taste between the two, but really don't care.
July 31, 200719 yr I usually just ask for a Coke. The waiter will then either say, "Is Pepsi okay?" or will say nothing and bring me whichever they have. What if you want Sprite or Mountain Dew? Pop is the term used for all soft drinks here in my part of EKY. In a restaurant, I will ask for Diet Pepsi, or Sprite, or whatever I want by name. But if at somebody's home, I may ask "do you have any pop?". And they may say, "yes, we have Coke, Sprite and Nehi Grape".
July 31, 200719 yr I think most Kentuckians refer to it as pop. In my county that's what it's called. When I was a teenager some cousins were visiting from Cleveland and said they "would like to have a cold soda", and I didn't know what they were talking about. I wouldn't say that at all. In my experience most Kentuckians refer to any carbonated beverage as a Coke.
July 31, 200719 yr If ordering in a restaurant we always say I'll have Pepsi. At home we refer to it as "cold pop". I think in a lot of places if you order a soda it is served with ice cream.
July 31, 200719 yr I generally am extremely specific in what I order. I prefer to use the name of the beverage specifically. One of the first things I do at a restaurant is check on the menu to see if they carry Pepsi or Coke products, I then order accordingly.
July 31, 200719 yr Well im from kentucky and i call it a coke me too. When I go into a restruant I always ask for a coke.
July 31, 200719 yr What if you want Sprite or Mountain Dew?In a restaurant I will ask for it by name specifically. It's just Coke and Pepsi that are interchangeable. In someone's home I would probably ask for "a soft drink".
July 31, 200719 yr In our part of KY, most people call it a soft drink, unless it's a cola. For cola drinks, I think they would most often say, "Coke". :thumb:
July 31, 200719 yr I usually just ask for a Coke. The waiter will then either say, "Is Pepsi okay?" or will say nothing and bring me whichever they have. :thumb: :thumb: I have done that as well.
July 31, 200719 yr My parents are from NY so they always called it soda so thats what I called it. Although I have now started to say pop because I always got a funny look when I said soda.
