July 31, 200719 yr Phillies Obtain Julio Mateo The Phillies are attempting to corner the market on scumbags. Today, they acquired 28 year-old reliever and wife beater/biter Julio Mateo from the Mariners. Performance always wins out, and Mateo had allowed just four runs in 32.2 Triple A innings this year. Kudos to the Mariners for leaving Mateo in Triple A and getting him out of the organization. He should move directly into a late-inning role for the Phillies. Classic...

July 31, 200719 yr Only time will tell... :lol: For the record, if Gagne stays healthy I could see Bosox resigning him and moving Jonathan to the rotation next year. However, I don't think Papelbon budges from the closer role this year (or in this post-season); chemistry my dear friend, chemistry.

Gagne was brought in because Timlin, who had been pitching lights out since returning from the DL, has been having discomfort in his shoulder. The Red Sox have went with Papelbon a few times this year in the 8th inning when they needed a tough out(s) like when he came in against Texas up a run with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Gagne will give them the flexibilty to still do this and have someone to pitch the ninth. Also the team has been very careful with Papelbon and avoid using him more than a couple of games in a row. If Timlin ends up being okay you now have Timlin, Okajima, Gagne, Delcarmen and Papelbon--you better make sure you have the lead against them after 5 or you're in big, big trouble--even if Timlin is out.

Let me inquire as to just how much of your opinion is based on first hand observation, information, and direct association and how much is based upon what you read and hear. In other words, how acquainted are you with those in the organization? I suspect that you are not in a position to have any first hand contact. You seem to have a definite opinion concerning the subject players. Just how many of them have you actually seen play? In regard to inside information concerning the Braves's organization and players, you are in over your head. By the way, at the last minute the Rangers slicked your buddy, Schuerholz, out of Beau Jones. The Rangers wouldn't finalize the trade without one more prospect and, since your boy needed to get it done for tonight's game, he surrendered.
