July 30, 200719 yr Just thought a thread for this would be easier than starting a thread for every trade. Two we know about already Lohse to Philly, and Big Tex to the ATL.

July 30, 200719 yr Author Not sure if its official yet but looks like the Mets will acquire 2B Luis Castillo from the Twins for minor leaguers C Drew Butera and OF Dustin Martin. Mets Close To Deal For Luis Castillo UPDATE: Doesn't look like the Twins got much here - Double A catcher Drew Butera and High A outfielder Dustin Martin. Martin might become a fourth outfielder one day. Ken Rosenthal snags another one: the Mets are close to acquiring Luis Castillo for two minor leaguers. If my memory serves me correctly, this would be Omar Minaya's first deal since December's acquisition of Ambiorix Burgos. [Edit: Well, the Jake Gatreau acquisition in June counts.] He's been uncharacteristically inactive. Is Castillo even an upgrade at second base? Maybe, but it'd be hard to argue he's a difference-maker. The Mets have a 4.5 game lead over the Braves; Atlanta's Teixeira and Dotel upgrades may be worth right around that difference. Finding a lefty-masher to pair with Shawn Green should be Minaya's next task. Sammy Sosa makes almost too much sense. Jonny Gomes or Brad Wilkerson could work too. Hell, they could throw Damion Easley out there.
July 30, 200719 yr Braves are close to acquiring Royals pitcher Octavio Dotel for further bullpen assistance.
July 30, 200719 yr Author Braves Close To Acquiring Octavio Dotel Interesting development via Ken Rosenthal: the Braves are close to a deal for Royals' closer Octavio Dotel. They apparently have made a better offer than finalists Cleveland and Los Angeles. Royals GM Dayton Moore knows his way around Atlanta's farm system, of course. He had all kinds of player development roles within the Braves organization. The Braves' top three prospects heading into the season per Baseball America were Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, and Matt Harrison. With those three out of the picture perhaps Moore is going for outfielder Brandon Jones or first baseman Scott Thorman. Quite a day for Atlanta...now to snag a starter... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com
