July 26, 200719 yr IMO he wasn't all that great as a QB. Lot of fluff and buff, no substance. :thumb: :thumb:
July 26, 200719 yr Do you honestly think that the NFL just made this decision on a whim? Me neither. Since they no FAR MORE on this issue than you or I will ever know, I'm good with the decision. Im not, I mean if he didn't fulfill what he was suppose to do, then they should atleast let people know why they gave him another year... I am worried now though that since he does have to sit out another year, that he might go back to all the problems he had. Because surely thinking that he could get back on the football field after sittin out a year drove him to doing the right things. But now that he knows he has to wait another year, Im afraid that it very well could lead him back to the problems that got him suspended anyways. I think this decision not only could hurt the Bengals, but also could hurt Thurmans life...
July 26, 200719 yr I think this decision not only could hurt the Bengals, but also could hurt Thurmans life... This is a job not a counseling service. If he needs to get help to keep him from swirling all the way down the drain use some of that cash he was paid to check himself into a treatment facility.
July 26, 200719 yr Goodell is one tough commish... :thumb: I like what he's done thus far, seems like a no nonsense type guy. I would like an explaination about the Odell situation though.
July 26, 200719 yr It certainly didn't help. I don't think the fact that the charges were dropped completely absolved ODell in the mind of the league. Sort of the "where there's smoke there's fire" thinking. I know some on here still believe that nothing happend. I would bet otherwise. I agree.... I can only imagine what money guy got involved with the other parties to make them not follow through with the charges. Could have been a huge Bengal insider or maybe someone in Thurman's posse... we will probably never know but someone got to those guys and paid them to shut up.

July 26, 200719 yr Brooks and Hartwell are going to have a good year. But with them 2 and miller, johnson, jeanty, and THURMAN, it could have been real nasty.
July 26, 200719 yr Brooks and Hartwell are going to have a good year. But with them 2 and miller, johnson, jeanty, and THURMAN, it could have been real nasty. I hope Brooks has a great year, but what have you seen to make you so confident to this point? He was below average last year -- you think one year will make that much of a difference that'll he go from a liability to a "good" linebacker? I hope you are right...he is REALLY important to this defense.
July 26, 200719 yr How much did his scuffle, and the subsequent dropped charges, play into this? Maybe the NFL knows more about that than they are letting on. I think the NFL knows a lot more. For the record, the incident that went away involved Odell and a stripper. Odell got too touchy feely and the bodyguard sent with the stripper was also the strippers boyfriend. The bodyguard and Odell went a round or two but after that your guess is as good as mine. Of course we may never know the whole truth but if I was a betting man I would bet this incident weighed heavily into the NFL's decision to suspend Odell for another year.

July 26, 200719 yr Goodell is one tough commish... That he is. He is really trying to clean things up and is clearly making examples out of people. And as for Odell he had to have done something wrong in his rehab. Or else his lawyers will make a case im sure.
July 26, 200719 yr And as for Odell he had to have done something wrong in his rehab. Or else his lawyers will make a case im sure. What would the argument be? Its my understanding that the actual sentence placed on Odell was that he was suspended for one year at which time he could re-apply (ie no guarantee).

Or else his lawyers will make a case im sure. It's about time someone held these spoiled athletes accountable for the decisions they make without being blinded by their abilities or the fans. If more leagues would go this route (are you listening Mr. Stern, Mr. Selig) then the problems would resolve themselves VERY quickly and teams wouldn't be so quick to turn a blind eye to the actions of their players.
