July 26, 200719 yr Ouch.... This is kind of messed up if he did what he was asked. If Vick only gets 4 games I am going to be one unhappy camper.
July 26, 200719 yr I wonder if he will file an appeal or a grievance with the league? I'm sure, and since all appeals are heard by Roger Dodger, you can guess how that'll turn out. Folks, clearly the NFL has some info or they would never do this. Let's not assume that the NFL just decided to ban for Year II on a whim...not happening. They have the goods, I'm sure of it.
July 26, 200719 yr Im thinkn this is a prelude to Goodell banning Michael Vick after he gets convicted of having some sort of play in the dogfighting. Goodell is setting examples here and not messing around. It stinks for us Bengal fans but such is life. This has been a horrilbe 16 months for the NFL with Pac man Jones, Tank Robinson, Michael Vick, Chris Henry, Odell Thurman, etc etc....... saw several interviews on NFL network with former NFL players from 60-s, 70-s and they call today's NFL players CLOWNS not football players. I agree somewhat with many of the players today acting like they are owed something and they play like God when in public. It really ruins the reputation of good guys like Manning, Palmer, etc.
July 26, 200719 yr I am sure there will be an appeal. Again, just like when Pac-Man appealed, it is heard by the Commissioner (the same guy that set the punishment to begin with). This isn't a democracy, it's his call.
July 26, 200719 yr I completely understand what you're saying and if you look at it strictly from a Bengals standpoint, I agree. However, when I said that I have no problem with it, I was probably more referring to cleaning up the league as a whole. It sucks that it's a Bengals player that is being penalized but I like what Goodell is doing. I also don't think that having Odell was going to make or break the season this year and I'm still optimistic. I think you've nailed it as to why he is not being reinstated. If it was just an Odell problem, he's probably back. However, the Commish is looking at the image of his product and Odell pays (lets remember that Odell put himself in this situation). As to "he did what the commish said he had to do" I'm going to assume that it wasn't laid out as "if you do A, you go to B." Any serious offense is probably always going to be left to the discretion of the big man.
July 26, 200719 yr How much did his scuffle, and the subsequent dropped charges, play into this? Maybe the NFL knows more about that than they are letting on.

I don't think the fact that the charges were dropped completely absolved ODell in the mind of the league. Sort of the "where there's smoke there's fire" thinking. I know some on here still believe that nothing happend. I would bet otherwise.
July 26, 200719 yr If this is occuring with Thurman, I would assume Vick won't be playing for a very, very long time, if ever again.

These are grown men we are discussing here. Odell had his opportunity to do the right thing after his 1st incident, and made an adult decision. He is paying for that. I don't see the problem with that.

July 26, 200719 yr I just hate the way everyone jump to conclusion... before they were "criminals" everyone was in love with em... get in trouble and you hang em.
