NBA Ref under "Game Fixing" investigation

Featured Replies

If this ends up being true, it could ruin the NBA forever.

Good it will make room for beckham and MLS!

The MLS is a non thug league also.

When the possibility of fixiing games or point spreads has been brought up before, lots of folks - and maybe some on this site - have been quick to say it's impossible.

We're long past the days where the only wagers are on winners/losers, point spreads and over/unders. These days you can bet on virtually anything. How many free throws will Kobe Bryant attempt or make. How many technical fouls will Rasheed Wallace get. How many rebounds will Ben Wallace get.

My point is that there a million variations; and they can probably all be done on-line. Those that automatically say "it couldn't possible happen - the fix can't be in" seem to be a little naive.

^I don't believe a player would ever fix a game. What does he really have to gain for it and has a lot to lose.

I'm thinking more along the lines of officials; not players.

I'm sure it happens a lot more than we will ever know, which is sad.

I'm not 100% positive, but I believe they said he's done playoff games, but never an NBA Finals.

I heard that on sportscenter this moring. Evidently he has admtted to it and confirmed it (if I heard it correctly)

This guy has just put the NBA's reputation down further in the toilet than it already was.

Imo at one time or another we have all said that games were fixed and this scum of the earth removed all doubt.

Like I have said many times before for the most part: NBA = "N"ational "B"ums "A"ssociation. :irked:

I would say that the players (certain ones) have fixed games as well.

Can't say I agree with all the NBA bashing on here. The NBA has no more problems than the MLB or NFL. In fact, when speaking of a "National Bum League", I think the NFL could fall into the same category. It's just this nation's blind love affair with the NFL that saves it from having a terrible public image.

:thumb: People make fun of the NBA for having thugs and as you said calling it the "National Bum League" when the NFL has every bit as many lowlifes and losers. Shoot the MLB have winners like Elijah Dukes and Delmon Young.

Does anyone else recall that when Pete Rose first was banned from baseball, there were also some umpires who were found to be betting on games. As best as I can remember, it was kind of swept under the carpet by MLB and the umps were allowed to continue calling games. Can anyone else confirm or refute this?

It's just this nation's blind love affair with the NFL that saves it from having a terrible public image.

But why does the public have a blind love affair with the NFL and not the NBA? Is it because, referee cheating or not, the NFL has a far superior product than the NBA?

Well said. IMO the nation's love affair with the NFL is all about gambling and fantasy leagues. If those things were made unlawful we would would probably treat the NFL like soccer.

And don't get me started on the double standard involving performance enhancing drugs. BTW, I also am in a fantasy league and like to lay down an occasional wager.

Uhhh...maybe it's because football is much preferred as a spectator sport regardless of gambling, etc. I'd much rather watch any decent football game, be it high school, college or NFL than I would basketball. I say again, the NBA has sucked since Bird and Magic.

I think it is because the NFL does a better job at marketing its teams. The NBA goes further to market individual players. So a team in the NFL can weather a bad seed better than an NBA team can.

I think you're being naive. Money talks.
