I think a referee (or umpire) could have a major say in the outcome of a game.

Maybe in this area, but in the cities where NBA franchises are, it's still a very popular league. Fans have always complained about how refs give special treatment to certain players and teams, if this proves to be true, it's going to be extremely difficult for the NBA to overcome.
July 20, 200719 yr I have often wondered about this type of thing and most often just wrote it off as "I've watched too many movies...", but now... This might explain some of the crazy scenarios that have forced me to lose money I should've won on games.
